Pre-Starfleet: Evelyn grew up on Farius Prime. Her parents had been killed in a run in with the Orion Syndicate and she was put in the orphange in the basement of a bar/brothel. She spend most of her time reading and studying anything she could get her hands on. She became interested in medicine because she felt the suffering of others and wanted to stop their pain and her own.

At fourteen when it became clear the orphanage intended for her to work upstairs she stowed away onboard a smuggler vessel and snuck out on the next station. She worked oddjobs for a year homeless and on her own until federation officer Lt. Fabian Evans was stabbed and left for dead in the isolated part of the space station.

She had been hiding in the shadows and witnessed the whole thing she saved his life and testified against the attackers Lt. Evans then gave her a reccomendation to Starfleet Academy. She studied medicine as well as attending betazoid counseling with Counselor Mahila Pentaghast to help with her empathic abilities as nobody had taught her before then.

During her time at the academy she was known to be fairly introverted. She was helped put to acclimate by fellow cadets Merula Whyte and Penelope Rivera. Both women far more confident than her. Penelope had the confidence of a young captain kirk and his appeal with women, While Merula was hot blooded it was debated whether she had klingon blood. Evelyn had feelings for both but they got seperate tours. She was aboard the U.S.S. Amsterdam. Merula was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Blackbird and Penelope was aboard the U.S.S. Gabriel Bell. After her Academy Tour she was transferred to the U.S.S. Wanderer.
