Dr. Abelard Peale is about average height, thin and London pasty. Pushing thirty, he is clean shaven (although it is not unknown for him to have a day or two's growth from time to time and it's not unusual to see bags under his eyes).

When out and about he dresses very traditionally in vintage upper class country clothing with a lived in look; a rumpled tweed suit and long tweed coat and wool scarf. He's a century out of fashion and often looking just barely on the presentable side of slept in, with brogue oxfords in need of a shine as his choice of footwear. He carries the standard issue black brolly, his particular one a Fox stick umbrella and he wears a brown trilby. An old Hamilton silver dial dress watch with brown leather band is on his left wrist. He sometimes carries a traditional brown leather doctors style bag, when needed.

Physically he is not an imposing man, but fit enough, and his natural inquisitiveness is perhaps his greatest asset.

Alebard lives on a narrowboat that moves every two weeks or so, making him difficult to find. If you find him on the barge he looks more the boat bum. He will usually wear a Henley shirt and knickers, or bermuda's if warm, with a knit cap and Wellington boots or fisherman's sandals. A guernsey sweater is added for the chilly days, and a duffle coat for the cold or rain.
