Balen usually appeared as an elderly human man with long grey hair and a short grey goatee, who favored shades of blues in his robes trimmed in golds and silver. His eyes were not normal for a human though with an iridescent sheen, while at other times they were a pale blue.

He walked with a staff and wore but a single ring and a pack on his back that appeared mostly empty from the outside.

For those with eyes to see beyond the veil of illusions there was more to see. A veritable halo of stones circled Balen's head in various orbits. And the eyes which had appeared blue or iridescent actually showed themselves to be slitted and... draconic in appearance. There was also a pair of nearly translucent wings, like those of a dragonfly spouted from his back.
