The destruction of Vienna's Chantry was a giant shock in the minds of many Tremere, sending the whole clan into disarray. There was one large unifying factor though, rage. The loss of the Blood Bond led many younger Tremere to rebel against the Pyramid's harsh treatment. Many joined House Carna in protest, and many more even joined the Anarchs.
Perhaps in other cities, the Camarilla might've backed the Pyramid, but in Portland, Prince Prescott needed the support of Blood Sorcery if she was going to establish Court in the graveyard of the Sabbat. Where Anton Gregerson failed, Tasha Mayer succeeded. She rallied the new Tremere of House Carna to provide the services the Prince needed, and in doing so, protected House Carna's position in the Camarilla. Now, even though the seat is still held by Anton, the Court looks to Tasha for the Tremere's opinions.
Tasha is ambitious, smart, bold, and diplomatic, a winning combination to charm her way into becoming the de-facto leader of the Tremere, but she still needs more popular support to truly usurp Anton's position. After all, the Pyramid still has vastly more resources, members, and power than House Carna, and Tasha is not nearly irreplaceable enough to survive if that all comes to bear.
