Physical Description: Dark-haired with auburn highlights stands out a bit amongst his fellow Irishmen. Jack has a fair but weathered complexion with green eyes that sparkle with mischief. He is tall and slender and obviously still growing into his adult form. Unusual for one so young he has a rather well grown auburn beard. Many joke that his family are Black Irishmen with blood going back to the Spanish Armada.


Clothing: Regular issue Union army uniform for a private soldier. Jack invariably has a sprig of something green tucked into his collar or hatband. He also has a purloined horseshoe in his backpack for luck. He has carved a three leaf shamrock on the stock of his rifle for luck as well.


Background: Jack was born in a poor crofter family in the extreme south of Ireland. The land was beautiful but a living was hard with a large family. Jack found himself more often not poaching for deer and geese while trapping smaller animals to help feed his family. He was caught by the game's keeper of the local Lord and sentenced to hang because of the extent of his depredations and insolent attitude. Jack's family helped him escape and put him on a fishing boat to Dublin where he caught a ship to the United States at the age of 15. Jack found New York to be inhospitable so he quickly traveled north to Maine where he could exercise his talents as a trapper. Deeply opposed to slavery given the treatment of his people in Ireland, Jack volunteered to fight against the slaveholders in the South.
