Orbrun was born on Triad in the Cassidine system, and was groomed from birth to be a doctor. It was a good thing for him too, because, given his generally average intellect and lack of tact, he relied heavily on family advice and connections to get through medical school. Even after this, the best gig he could land was working for the CDC (Cassidine Development Corporation) on Rupert's Hole as a field medic, traveling from farm to farm evaluating workman's comp claims ( a job that  was practically unnecessary given the level of surveillance on that planet ). Figuring that even prison was better than a meaningless career, he intentionally (stupidly?) falsified a claim and, of course, got caught. The CDC had had it withn Orbrun, but they couldn't jail him or fire him. His family was too influential. Instead, they took a tip from Orbrun himself and falsified his records, styling him as a field surgeon of supreme quality, and hired him out to the Truane's Star United Government for some rescue mission to a remote planet, hoping never to have to deal with him again. Orbrun could not have been happier with the arrangement.
