There are men whose bulk is merely a facade, whose small layer of puppy fat hides slabs of muscle which make them foes to fear.

Harland Wyatt is not one of those men.

To his mother, he was 'husky' and 'big boned'. To everyone else, the adjectives run the gamit between the affectionate ('big guy' and 'chunky') to the insulting ('fat ass').

To be fair to Harland, he's not at the point where he's being scouted for exploitative reality shows, but he's certainly a big guy, and he hasn't helped the image by growing a heavy beard, dressing mostly in plaid and tight fitting old t-shirts dripping with food stains, and hiding his bald patch under a baseball hat which declares his participation in the '99 fantasy football draft.

For the most part, he keeps to himself, spending his time between the factory in which he works, and an apartment above a garage on the outskirts of town.
