In his mortal life Aeolus of Thule was part of the Byzantine Varangian Guard,
bodyguards and elite enforcers to the Emperor himself, as evinced by the
dragon motif emblazoned on his heavier armor that few would choose to falsely
wear and the obvious decent from peoples of the far north so as to not have
any personal attachment to locals and only loyalty to the Emperor.

Despite claiming Cappadocian ancestry he seems to be a supernatural throwback
to a time before their blood curse fully took hold and something else marked
them.  That or, dangerous to speak out loud let along contemplate, the blood
didn't run true and he is some mongrel of a caitiff.  Rumors though say his
martial bent aligns him with the clans enforcers, the Lamia.  Regardless of
the rumors his sire claims him...nominally at best...but has taken pains to
ensure that all his fellow clan know that Aeolus is a disgrace and is barely
worth the blood within his veins.  It is a badge that will be hard for Aeolus
to cast off, if ever.
