Record before Service:  Child of a planetary noble and retired Guard soldier, he was ushered into the Schola Progenium from the besieged Manufactorum world he was born on when a surprise attack wiped out most nobility below the Planetary Governor's direct family.  From there he progressed with the top third of his class, showing a knack for alternative tactics and some skill in motivating those around him in tasks.  While he may have shown some talent for the bureaucracy of the Munitorum, his display of tactical grasp when confronted by a group of senior students led an instructor to force him first into combat training for placement in the Militarum Tempestus, until it was observed he would often guide the squad leaders, or other students to take initiative in combat drills that the instructor there had first set him to run the perimeter of Schola 5 times, then had him be lined up for entrance to train in the Officio Prefectus.

Record of Service:  His assigned training as a Junior Commissar had been considered the end of his career, his assignment to a Mordian Iron Guard regiment was changed last moment do to a warp storm changing arrival times meant he was reassigned to a Catachan regiment instead.  So with his equipment prepared to a Mordian parade standard he was entrenched under a Fenrisian born Commissar nicknamed the She-wolf, and shipped to jungle fighting.  To everyone's surprise he managed to survive, return more stout than he left, and was granted the full rank of Commissar.

From there he found himself attached to an Elysian regiment when their last commissar due to an unappease machine spirit in of an Aquila lander that finding peace in the side of a mountain.  Novus found himself only in service there for 3 years before being transferred out of the regiment as it went to rest duty as an Armaggedon Steel Legion Mechanized regiment was in need of a Commissar.  He missed three more rest deployments, being bounced to a regiments that had suddenly lost their Commissars before he found duty with a Valhallan 12th Field Artillery, for a short 18 month deployment and ended up in a rest deployment.

Little is shown on his record during the rest deployment, though there was a high number of liaison activities logged with local Munitorum, Administorum, and the Schola Progenium officials of the world.  The exact nature of those duties is unclear in the file, but many involved him being needed over night or over the ends of weeks.  But when assignment were forming, he was detached from the Valhallan 12th Field Artillery and was assigned to the 115th Baegor Fire-Drakes instead of being sent out to deal with a splinter Hive fleet, or aiding a Vostroyan Conscript regiment bound fight building Ork Waaagh, as would have been next in rotation.
