Long ago, there was a wandering deity that married the wind.

Their sword was shattered by their slayer, and one hundred and seven pieces scattered into the river of the dead. The hundred-eighth shard was paid as toll to the Ferryman, to ensure it would never again be made whole.

The deity's true strength was not his sword, but rather the favor of his wife. By her will the shards of his sword were reborn as weapon-spirits sworn to protect the lost.
