Star Trek:Border Cutter

Welcome to Star Trek: Border Cutter! This is a freeform roleplaying game set in the Star Trek expanded universe approximately one month after the end of the Dominion War (circa 2375), and is loosely inspired by the opening chapter  of "Ship of the Line" by Diane Carey, which relates the story of the U.S.S. Bozeman, which appears in the Star Trek:The Next Generation episode "Cause and Effect", and how she came to be caught in the time-loop and what happened to her and her crew after the events of the episode in question.

In these same pages, it is mentioned that the Bozeman was a Federation border cutter, basically the Starfleet equivalent of a police cruiser patrolling the border between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire, basically doing all the kinds of menial work you never got to see ships like the Enterprise doing during the run of the many Star Trek TV shows and movies, but naturally would be necessary for a real space-faring civilization to do to keep things running smoothly. It was also mentioned that border cutters tended to be rather rough and tumble rigs, often comprised of older models of starships that tended to be held together with the proverbial bubble gum and baling wire, as they never were top of the priority list for repairs and upgrades.

After a long absence of writing any kind of Trek material, I remembered this story and thought "Hmm, there's a story in there," and hence the premise of this game.

Although ostensibly a "serious" Star Trek game, what I'm shooting for here is more of a lighthearted, sometimes hilarious, romp through the stars with a more unconventional ship and an equally unconventional crew, ala the Dirty Dozen meets The Orville. The ship's an old clunker that's falling to pieces, the crew is basically all the misfits which Starfleet couldn't find a use for elsewhere, and the place they're going to call home is a worn out old starbase-cum-scrapyard out in the boonies of Federation territory, surrounded on all sides by the baddies of the galaxy. Somehow, some way, they've got to pull it all together and keep the peace.

If you think this sounds like fun, I invite you to submit a character sheet and join the game, and boldly go in the grand tradition of Star Trek.
