AGE OF WORMS



Since the beginning of history, mankind has measured time in Ages. Ages of Glory, of Dreams and even of Great Sorrow mark the human tally of years, giving a sense of order to the events of past centuries and millennia. But, one age has yet to occur - an age of darkness and decay, and of writhing doom that will drown the mortal realms in suffering and agony.

Witty bards and wrathful preachers know it as the Age of Worms, weaving it into the peripheries of their passion plays as a mythic era of destruction that could begin at any time. Yet, to the scattered few astrologers, diviners and servants of fate that know more, it is a very real and persistent danger that draws ever closer with each passing year.

The wisest among them, however, fear that the Age of Worms has already begun.

Yet, our tale begins far from such grave concerns, in the small mining community of Diamond Lake that rests one the shores of . Located in the hills due East of the city of Waterdeep, it is a largely insignificant town of working-class miners who eke out a miserable living toiling underground in service of unscrupulous merchant guilds. The only hope for solace in this sooty, sullen place is along the Vein - a seedy road lined with ale-houses and brothels.

However, there is always opportunity for adventure as the uplands surrounding the town are host to numerous ancient tombs and burial cairns for long-dead cultures. Though most of them have long since been emptied of anything precious, adventurers and desperate villagers alike occasionally come by hoping to discover hidden passages or secrets overlooked by others.

In the past week, word has spread of several adventurers from Waterdeep who are seeking to raid an old cairn somewhere deep in the hills and a secret they possess that will lead them to a great deal of treasure. Yet, they are not alone - a group of other adventurers, desperate to leave Diamond Lake behind, have overheard details of their plans and aim to meet up in an abandoned mine office out in the hills, seeking to race ahead of them to try and claim the treasure for themselves...



This is a 5e game following the events of the 'Age of Worms' adventure path as set in the Forgotten Realms. The game begins in 1374DR with the players as locals or travelers and their hirelings who are stuck in the town of Diamond Lake and who gained enough insight into the plans of the adventurers from Waterdeep to mount an expedition of their own to try and make some money and finally leave Diamond Lake behind.

No or little familiarity with the source material or Forgotten Realms in general is expected and encouraged. Those who played this adventure path before should consider other adventures as I am more interested in hosting new players or those who have heard of the adventure path but never had the possibility of trying it before. Similarly, while this game is set in Forgotten Realms, there may be divergences from the lore to accommodate the game and my DMing style.
