Iain Woodward

Background

The Woodward family has no ties to Witchcraft, not even old anecdotes about great grandmother's or particularly odd extended relatives. They are an old and wholesome family, farmers by trade, who have branched out into the myriad specialties of their craft over many generations. A family indelibly tied to the land.

Young Iain was a blessing to them, their only son, a beautiful child who has gradually grown into a striking young man, a good hearted young man, with a deep and abiding love for life, for the living land and the creatures that call it home.

Not a young man most would associate with Witchcraft, granted, but one with a reverence, an inherent recognition of the divinity of the natural world from a young age. One who has always walked gently upon the earth, and who has looked with mute awe upon the incredible complexity of the natural world.

This appreciation led to a desire for knowledge, knowledge that went beyond the finer points of crop rotation or animal husbandry, a deeper more primal knowledge that nobody, his family included, seemed to share.

He was lost for a time, he grew withdrawn and sullen, unable to find any outlet or satisfaction, and not being able to afford a real book or a tutor even if they had been available.

Then, rumors of Witchcraft, and not just Witchcraft, but a gathering of them. All living together, all practicing their strange art, rumor and speculation abundant but with no real substance to them. That was, until he set out to find them.

It was a wild whim, borne of restlessness and frustration. He was told, time and again, that to seek out a Witch was folly. That they very well might curse him for his impertinence, and most often...that they did not like men. That they were all female, and would not permit any male to come among them. Protective sorts.

But, he went, and he searched, and after some time he found them. He did not go looking for an apprenticeship, the idea was beyond his wildest dreams at a time. He had just gone looking for answers.

The first meeting went about as expected. He was rebuked for "sniffing around" after "wild rumors".

But he persisted, with sincerity, and humility, and in time it was admitted that they could use someone to chop wood and fetch water. That would be the extent of it, for the moment, and he was not to cause any trouble.

It was about two years later, that out of the blue Iain was approached by Agnes and asked if he was still interested in learning about magic. He was, of course, and having proven a certain requisite dedication he advanced from errand boy into the very beginnings of what might be called a Warlock, the first in the history of the Coven. An experiment, if you will, to see if it was possible at all and what effect a young male might have, for good or ill, upon the gathering.

Description

Although just an awkward yet sturdy boy at the time of his arrival, Iain has grown into a strapping young man as of late. Indeed he has become something of a distraction, although he seems to remain mostly unconscious of the fact.

Possessed of a wholesome and approachable demeanor, dark green eyes and golden blond hair, he smiles and laughs often, and has a healthy tan from his frequent chores out of doors.
