Vince 'Doc' Barilla is a plain, thin, short, 37 year old surgeon. He has very dark brown eyes, well cut black hair and wears nice clothes. He went to Chatham High School and after graduation, he entered the University of Rochester Medical School in New York, from which he received his M.D. degree. He interned and did his residency at Rhode Island Hospital.

Giuseppe and Alessandra Barilla were immigrants from Sicily.  Giuseppe was an intelligent man with little hope of bettering himself in the new world.  In despair and having just about given up hope to find his American dream, Giuseppe met Frank Minetta.  Mr. Minetta gave Giuseppe a job in the up and coming Minetta illegal enterprises.

After several years of solid and increasingly important work for the enterprises, Giuseppe was sent to learn about basic chemistry from some "down to earth" chemists from one of the enterprises that hired them when needed. Giuseppe began to construct illegal distilleries for Mr. Minetta and he created many small distilleries. He was very successful and was thanked and even honored by Mr. Minetta, When Giuseppe was trying to improve a distilling process and accident occurred which killed him.

Mr. Minetta took care of Giuseppe's family, Alessandra, Vince 'Doc' and Angelo, while 'Doc' Barilla grew up. 'Doc' idolises Mr. Minetta and will do just about anything asked of him.  'Doc' is a surgeon and has paid for his brother Angelos education.

'Doc' has a home and an office at 134 Courtland Street in Federal Hill (Little Italy) just a couple of blocks from the Minetta home. He lives at the home with his mother and brother.  Evangelista Marino is his nurse and a Sicilian - American born second cousin of his.

'Doc' takes his mother to Mass at the Church of St. Mary every Sunday (unless he has some emergency). It's on Broadway, a few blocks from his house. Alessandra Barilla likes to be driven to church so everyone sees how successful her son is.
