HISTORY

Lt. Leopold Isenberg Wendt, born in 1842 in Isenberg, immigrated to America in 1860.  Worked as a clerk in a shipping company in Philadelphia.  Joined the Union Army in 1861 in the First German Regiment and made a corporal.  Would eventually be made a lieutenant after Gettysburg in response to the night fight at Culp's Hill.  Wounded in the left forearm and right leg twice.  Walks with a noticeable limp.  He is a widower, his beloved Regina having died a few months after their first child to be born alive.  Two others died late in the term.  He was away for the deaths of his stillborn children and his wife.

Hired by the railroad to run the train station in a small town called Sweetwater.  Leopold, Leo to those who he permits to know him better, Wendt is boarding in Sweetwater and tries to make a trip twice a year to Philadelphia to visit his toddler of a daughter.  He sends money to those taking care of her in his absence.

Personality:
Fairly patient and slow to anger. Educated with tutors in Germany, so well-read and well-bred as a former member of the nobility.  Has some funds.  Interested in mysticism as that is a family trait.

Sexual Preferences:  Straightish - connection versus gender.

Lt. Leopold Isenberg Wendt, born in 1842 in Isenberg, immigrated to America in 1860.  In fact, he ran off with a merchant's daughter, Anna Regina Wendt,  when ordered to break off the affair in 1860.  Immigrated to America in late 1860 - father revoked title and invested with the youngest sibling, his only brother Willy.

She and Leopold used her name to avoid being found by the district police as they traveled to Le Havre to immigrate to Philadelphia with some 200 thalers.
He worked as a clerk in a shipping company in Philadelphia.  When President Lincoln called for volunteers, he joined the Union Army in 1861 in the First German Regiment and was made a corporal.  He would eventually be made a lieutenant after Gettysburg in response to the night fight at Culp's Hill.  Wounded in the left forearm and right leg twice.  Walks with a noticeable limp.

His wife died two months after Appolonia's birth, their first child to survive childbirth, while Leopold was in the Union Army. Daughter raised by Regina's cousins the Kohlhepps till Leopold returned. He took the job at Sweetwater leaving her in Philadelphia to be raised by the Kohlhepp's.  Has rented out Philly home.
