Tamriel: Rebuilding the Empire

For most of the Second Era, Cyrodiil lay in ruins. Following the failed invasion of Tamriel by the Daedric prince Molag Bal in 2E582 and the Alliance Wars, the former Imperial province remained but a shadow of its former glory. The days of King Reman were long past; centuries of unstable potentates, attempted coups, secessions and skirmishes caused the once almighty First Empire of Men to crumble on itself. Pretenders and usurpers regularly defied each other in an attempt at resting their armor-clad bottoms on the empty Ruby Throne and claim some of its famed magical power. Even the two former halves of Cyrodiil, the western reaches of Colovia and the eastern grasslands of Niben, were at each other’s throat. For almost three centuries after the Alliance Wars, no ruler remained on the throne of the Imperial Province for more than a handful of years, while the other regions of Tamriel licked their wounds and started to rebuild. Rampant incompetence, treason, assassinations, Daedra worship, and last but not least the lack of support from the Divines, turned the former center of Tamriel’s power into a travesty of itself.

Around 2E850, Cuhlecain, ruler of Falkreath, a northern Colovian kingdom reaching between Skyrim and Hammerfell, rose to prominence by violently quenching the rebellion in his province and driving off the Breton separatists and Redguard colonists. His armies, led by the implacable General Talos, started expanding through the Colovian highlands, securing one village at a time and expanding Falkreath’s influence. Within the span of a few years, Cuhlecain and Talos conquered the western half of Cyrodiil. Their military prowess ensured the support of former enemies, and in 2E854, the Imperial City fell to their forces. Unfortunately, Cuhlecain would not live to savor his victory. A Breton assassin slit both his and Talos’ throat shortly before the coronation. By a miracle of the Gods, Talos survived and was crowned the new Emperor of Cyrodiil under the name of Tiber Septim. In the following years, Tiber Septim would stabilize and conquer Skyrim, High Rock and Hammerfell before turning his attention towards the neighboring Dunmer province of Morrowind to the east.

We are writing the year 2E889. The now flourishing Empire is rising from its ashes. Revived commerce and trade brought prosperity to the human lands, and done more good for the relationships with the Elves and Beastmen than many previous diplomatic approaches. Our adventure begins in the town of Leyawiin, the southernmost great city of Cyrodiil, wedged along the coast of the Topal Sea between the Khajit kingdom of Elsweyr and the swamps of Black Marsh. Cosmopolite, colorful and chaotic, Leyawiin is host to merchants, sailors, mercenaries, knights and spellcasters who engage in innumerable deals and barters. The perfect place for aspiring adventurers to start etching their names on the walls of History.

The game takes place in the universe of the Elder Scrolls game series. No prior knowledge is required.
