Appearance: Ciaran has a soft welcoming face.  He wears a short beard and his black hair is cut short.  He could be considered handsome but there is a certain detachment to his features.  His skin is relatively smooth and is not showing the rigours of the wind and rain of the island.  His eyes are grey and often seem as though they are looking deep into someone, as though he can see into their soul.  Although he wears a black cassock when preaching in his kirk, when in his community he wears bright colours like the rest of his flock.  When in Dunscathe he appears to be casually dressed but always looks immaculately turned out, favouring expensive (and comfortable!) knitwear.

Background:  Brother Ciaran is the founder of the Free Church of Skye, ostensibly a Christian sect with Calvinist roots however the theology developed by it's founder bears little relation to more established forms of Christianity.  He founded the Church three years ago with funds from an unknown source.  He was fortunate to be able to buy the croft his kirk and farm are sited on outright which provides a degree of security to the community.

Brother Ciaran grew up in Murrayburn, Edinburgh and rarely speaks of his youth and the life before he discovered his faith.  There have been moments where chinks in his armour have appeared and a life of poverty and insecurity has been alluded to before his awakening.  As a consequence his mission recruits in the rough areas of Scottish and Northern England cities, looking for those lost and in need of salvation.  The Free Church of Skye is a small community of drug addicts, alcoholics, the homeless, the depressed and worse.  Brother Ciaran has provided a home for those who have transgressed society in the worst of ways and repented.  Whether predator or prey, once in the Church all eschew their old life and their old ways and all are renewed.

Of course the Free Church of Skye is not a cult and people are free to leave and people give everything they own and will own freely.  But why would one want to leave when Brother Ciaran has given them everything?
