Don Diego Delgado, a hidalgo of impeccable descent, though only of the minor nobility, had won a great reputation as the finest captain in the Esbanian fleet in the Dragon Sea, as captain of the Estrella del Sur. He had also won the heart of the beauteous Donna Dulcinea, daughter of the Governor of Esbaniola, and hoped to wed her soon.
Unfortunately, she was also being courted by the illustrious Count Luis de Lara y Mendoza, cousin of the governor. Don Luis forced a duel on Don Diego, expecting to win by treachery, but Don Diego killed him quickly, cleanly and honorably. However, Don Luis's second proclaimed that Don Diego had won by the basest villainy. Despite good testimony to the contrary, the governor had Don Diego thrown in the dungeon to await trial and execution, though Don Diego's attorneys are doing their best to postpone the inevitable doom. Meanwhile his faithful crew has other plans...
Don Diego is tall, for an Esbanian, well-muscled, with flashing dark eyes and crisp dark hair and beard. When free he is usually dressed in the height of Esbanian court fashion except on shipboard, were he dresses simply and can perform any part of a sailor's duty as needed.
