Armat

Armatridîon Lévústicar.
("Armat" for non-elves)

Background: Armat is a middle-aged elf who emerged from a kaer relatively recently. In the kaer he was an attendant of a noble family. He fully expected a return to Wyrm Wood and the elven court once they would re-emerge on the surface. Of course, matters took a sharp turn when the truth of the world was discovered; Wyrm Wood was gone, replaced with Blood Wood, and the elven court had enacted a terrible ritual, turning the once noble elves into tormented shadows of themselves. Thus, he was set adrift.

It was during this time that Armat gained a deep appreciation for the natural world, and especially the creatures that inhabited it. To distract himself from the political turmoil his people were in, he began cataloguing the animals of the new world. It was then that he found he could deeply empathize with the various creatures, and he gained a deeper understanding of their place in the greater scheme of things. It was during one of his cataloguing forays he was encountered by a Beastmaster, and they spoke at length. Even though the Beastmaster was a nearly savage troll, their mutual respect for the animal world formed a bond, and Armat accepted tutelage from the Beastmaster. Now, recently, Armat has become an adept. He respectfully retired his position at the elven family he had served for over a century, and set out in the world as an adventuring adept.

Homeland: Kaer Karvarath was Armat's home for most of his life. Located a week's travel from Kratas, it was inhabited by dwarves, elves, humans and orks, with a total population of about 1200 namegivers. Existence in the kaer was mostly segregated by race to temper potential conflicts and led to a certain aloofness in the elves which still reflects on Armat today.

When Armat emerged he expected to move to Wyrm Wood, but the home of elven culture had been unrecognizably changed. This set him adrift. While he feels a connection to Barsaive, it is tenuous, and his long-term plans see him relocate to Shosara once matters in Barsaive are settled.

General outlook on life:
Armat is an austere and serious elf, like a scholarly general. He believes in taking the long-term outlook into account in all he does, and aims for goals that can be a century in the future. His actions in the present day all aim for said futures, like reclaiming Barsaive, charting the natural creatures of the world, gaining their strength, and understanding the new world he lives in, so different from life in the kaer.

In particular Armat is concerned with the Elven race as a whole. The change of the elven court and Wyrm Wood into becoming the thorn elves and Blood Wood respectively is a matter that strangles his heart. Now his hopes for elven society and culture lie in distant Shosara. But the threat of the Therans looms over all elves. Elven culture cannot flourish under the iron heel of the Empire. Thus, Barsaive must be strengthened to resist it, and Armat's actions, be it to slay a horror or solve courtly intrigue, are all bent on ensuring the future prosperity of elven culture.
