Datuk Tan Cheng Leng

Datuk Tan Cheng Leng hailed from Singhara in the Southern Islands. An adopted son of the Temenggong of the island, Tan was taken in after his parents saved the Temenggong. In return, the chief of the island promised to raise Tan well and teach him the way of the warrior.

Since young, Tan was trained in the art of fighting. A strong warrior, Tan learnt that attack is the best form of defence. His natural agility allowed him to avoid some nasty blows. Thus, from the Temenggong's best warriors, Tan learnt how to fight and developed his style of aggressive fighting, using an heirloom axe, augmented by his strength.

One day, he had a disagreement with one of the daughters of the local magistrate and decided to take his leave to avoid further conflict.

Taking his heirloom and some provisions, Tan bade the court farewell, taking a passing trader ship to another land...
