The second escapee, his fiancée Lady Mary Bermonsley, managed to get him torn apart by hounds and the village dogs that joined them as he sought to gain the safety of the Wyzenwood in the witch-form of a fox (as she claimed). Edmond did indeed die there, but it seems he recently got better.
