It happened with no warning. One fine day the world spun as it always did and in a single moment, the sky shattered and reality changed forever. The very laws of physics themselves started to become loose and ordinary people suddenly awakened to extraordinary power. Many had become superlative in their fields of endeavour, others displayed what could only be termed as magical powers. A chosen few however underwent even greater changes. They fused with a Mantle, a shard of Divinity itself, and become the Godbound.
Truthfully the Godbound are not that hard to spot in a crowd. They often become idealized versions of themselves, far more comely and attractive than at any other point in their lives. Infirmities are cured; the blind see and the lame walk. Those infirm with age regain the vigour of their youth. Each and every one of them becomes a perfect physical specimen.
For a world afraid and confused, the Godbound are still somewhat of a mystery. Very few have any idea on what the Godbound really are; gods in the making. To much of the world it appeared as if the pages of a comic book or the reels of a Hollywood blockbuster had come to life and superheroes walked among them. For the Godbound themselves however, they are slowly realizing the true extent of their power.
And power corrupts.
