A native of Great Forks, Steps of Grace is a Sacred Prostitute. One of the priestesses of a goddess of love, beauty and fertility, she and her brethren's main role is to comfort the despairing, to soothe troubled souls and to provide wise counsel if needed. Creation is a harsh and often bleak place, even in a city as blessed with divine providence as Great Forks. The Sacred Prostitutes function as courtesans mainly despite their name implying a more carnal profession. As they often say, the "sacred" is primary above the "prostitute".

Although unsurprisingly their temple is quite popular with all manner of folk from all walks of life. With the temple's walls, people can find respite and entertainment. Convivial company and a listening ear. A place far from their troubles where they may relax, recharge and return to life refreshed. The priestesses are quite adamant that their temple is a sanctuary but not a hiding place; the idea is to regain your resolve to face your troubles, not to hide from the world in a hedonistic haze.

Steps of Grace always was one of the more notable of her peers. Blessed with physical beauty and grace, she had done her job well and could expect a long and happy career in the temple. Then came a devastating drought. A god of rain had been offended by a drunken revel in his temple, one that damaged his statue. To retaliate against the mortal's lack of respect and restraint in a holy place, he shut himself in a cave and refused to come out and do his job.

And when that job is causing rain to fall, this becomes a real problem.

Even the other gods encouraged their worshipper to propriate and mollify their kin. The residents of Heaven tend to take the side of their own after all. Thus Steps of Grace went to the cave and through song, dance and feminine persuasion, managed to sooth the god's temper and bring rains back to Great Forks. For this she exalted as a Zenith. Being a priestess already, falling into the role of a Zenith was simple and easy for Steps. Less so her newly gained Anathema status in the Realm.
