John St. John-Smythe is at the tall side of average in height, lean and athletic in build, and ugly. His face is hairless and featureless, except for the slit that functions as a mouth, two tiny holes for nostrils, a slight ridge just above what should be eye sockets, small narrow eyes, and button sized ears.
John normally wears a suit with a trench coat and hat, the latter two consistently torn and battered, and occasionally lost. As a concession to those that might find his appearance disturbing, he wears a well-made latex mask in public. His efficacy with disguise makes it undetectable by anything but a close examination.
