Kameesha Silvertongue

Her tongue is pink, just like anyone else's but her words....  Ah yes her words are golden.  She plays the drums to charm the fish from the sea and from the sands, stranger fish still, but then she wraps herself in shadow and leaves the limelight in an instant.

She is a human of the Yerbrira people although she no longer dresses in the garb of the tribe that cast her aside long ago.  Her skin is dark but her hair bleached white by a constant affair with the sun which a further affair with the shadows has done nothing to dispel.

She is always wrapped in shadows now and hard to see at the best of times.  When she wishes to hide, she can do so in plain sight.

BACKGROUND
Kameesha was born among the Yerbira people of the Osirian desert.  She trained as a dancer and a bard but she broke the Taboo that demands that the Yebira remain hospitable toward all guests until those guests act against the Yebira.

The guests in question were agents of the Dragon known as the Crystal King.  She had heard them plotting to enslave the young people of Kameesha's band, obviously including her.  She and her brother Kamid and their friend Yassan cut the throats of the guests during the night and, although the band believed their story of the plot, the necessity of the Taboo remained.  The two men were released to take their chances alone and unprotected in the deep desert while Kameesha, considered the likely leader of the group, was thrown instead into the Mouth of the Desert.

The tradition among the group was that anyone who returned from the deep desert unaided, and anyone who climbed out of the Mouth of the Desert, was considered to have been forgiven by the gods.  While occasionally people return from the desert, nobody had returned from the Mouth.

As tradition demands, a rope was thrown down after Kameesha.  She found herself in a deep hole, dark except for a single shaft of light that provided little illumination except shadow.  With rope and stones as her only weapon and with no companion save strange voices in her head, she wanders aimlessly through the edges of the Darklands, listening to the voices and learning to work with the shadows.

With each step she expected to fall to her death or to the realm of the Aboleth below but after months of wandering, living off what the voices, and later her shadow companion, told her she could eat and drink, instead she found herself not falling deeper within but moving upward.  With horror she realised why nobody had been able to climb up.  She was in the Crystal King's mines.

She was captured and forced under the whip to work for the Crystal King but the guards were used to Yerbirans who had been cowed into submission.  They were also used to slaves who were unarmed.  Ropes or chains were weapons by now and Kameesha knew her business.  She escaped from here too but rather than try to find her band, she sought and found sanctuary in the city of Eto.

But only for a while.
