The Star Wars: Decline and Fall of the Republic
The Star Wars: Decline and Fall of the Republic is a game using the rules and setting of a Star Wars RPG, but none of the established Star Wars canon, lore, or timelines. It is a fresh field of snow waiting for us to leave our own footprints in it. The world is familiar enough in the broad strokes-- Jedi and Sith, smugglers and starfighters, aliens and droids-- but the Devaronian is in the details and Wookieepedia doesnt have all the answers. Were taking all of the cool pieces of the Star Wars franchise and remixing them. Before we create our characters-- as a group-- were going to take turns, round-robin style, defining our personal Star Wars settings recent history and current conflicts. When we do create our characters, players will be able to create Force Sensitive or non-sensitive characters, Light or Dark, humans or droids or any one of a dizzying array of alien species.
General Guidelines:
- The Republic: Has been declining for a long time. Very few people believe the Republic will last for the rest of their lives. Still the economic, military, and cultural powerhouse of the galaxy. Chancellor Palpatine vows to end the Clone Wars and restore the Republic without compromising the Republics values.
- First Order: A cabal of military officers and politicians within the Republic that advocate military-industrial government, law and order, and selectively anti-alien policies. Publicly condemns the Separatists for treason-- privately supports them to weaken the Republic, so they can make it great again.
- Confederation of Independent Systems: A loose alliance of libertarians, legitimate and criminal business interests, marginalized cultures-- iincluding many Sith and Mandalorians-- fighting for self-rule and autonomy in diplomacy and trade. Led by the Jedi heretic, Count Dooku.
- The Clone Wars: Have been going on for decades. Both sides are using clones. This is becoming more of a problem every year, especially with people discovering that the original clones may have been templated from a Mandalorian warrior.
- The Jedi: The Jedi Temple of Coruscant believes it speaks for the whole Jedi Order, and thus for the Light itself. It provides minimal support for Temples that recognize its authority, and brand Temples that do not as heretical. Between this infighting and the Clone Wars, theyre doing a lot less protecting and serving than they used to. Still the good guys on a personal level. Grandmaster Yoda is the leader of the Coruscanti Jedi, while Count Dooku serves less directly as the leader of the Corellian Jedi Order.
- The Sith: Every slum and wasteland in the galaxy is riddled with Sith cults, moreso the further you get from the Galactic Center. The Sith are not driven to murderous vengeance against either the Jedi or each other, but interference, injury or insult-- especially insult-- can provoke an insatiable lust for vengeance from the offended partys entire cabal.
- The Force: There is no gray side of the Force. Jedi can be corrupted, but cannot remain corrupt for long before they Fall. Sith can be heroic, but cannot abide peace and order for long before they Fall. There are no mechanics for this in SW5e, but lets all pretend there are-- and if you want to Fall, well work something out.
- The Underground: So many crime syndicates. The Hutts. Prince Xizor runs the Black Sun. Darth Maul runs the Crimson Dawn. Some people consider the Mandalorians a crime syndicate, and the Mandalorians will cheerfully agree as long as they get paid. The Bounty Hunters Guild offers a legitimate face and some regulation for its members, and one-stop shopping for having people kidnapped or killed. Renegade Jedi have to go into hiding and support themselves somehow, while nearly all Sith are violent criminals-- of one kind or another.
