Victoria was given to John Cannon as a bride though the man was years older than her.  Her father and John did this to seal a contract between their two huge ranches that both bordered the Rio Grande in Laredo.  Don Alejandro Montoya's ranch was in Mexico.

Victoria was raised as a proper lady and in the hispanic ways of grace and elegance.  It was right for her father to wed her to someone he had extreme influence and admiration of.  She accepted her lot and left her grand home in Mexico to go to the harsh rugged ranch in the Territory of Texas.

She and John fell in love though and their life was a good one.  Albeit fighting off the Apache, Commanche and Comanchero's besides other rustlers.  This was how John Cannon met his demise, he was fighting with his men against rustlers, or was it an indian attack.  Oddly John had brokered a peace with the indians and they left the ranch alone so for this to be an indian raid was very very unlikely!

So she and her brother Manolito Montoya, came to Laredo to get the ranch and her inheritance in order.  Victoria has decided to run the ranch and keep it.  She has been in mourning over a year and now in Laredo she met someone.  She put away her mourning clothes and fell in love with the town lawyer, Tobias Ahlbright.
