Samuel is the local vicar. Invited to the seance by Ondine in a bout of over-enthusiasm, he is here reluctantly, not wanting to have much to do with these vaguely blasphemous practices. But he is aware of the grim reputation of the house, and feels obliged to attend due to a sense of unease that he can’t quite shake.
