[B6] Setting Doorways

Premise: In the summer between their final year of middle school and the first year of high school, something extraordinary happened to a group of close friends. Their lives were fairly normal until one day they found themselves suddenly transported to another world. Almost immediately they were swept up in the intrigues of gods, mages, and kings. For indeed, this new world was filled with magic and wonder, things both the stuff of dreams and nightmares. Everything was new and wonderful and perilous. And yetÂ…

A powerful Enemy, a terrible Dark Lord, had set their sights upon the children from the moment they'd entered the new world. Nowhere was safe, for their reach was long, their influence great, their power undeniable and inevitable.

Yet these children were not powerless, for they would soon learn that they each imbued with a power all their own, and it will be up to them to save the world, and hopefully find their way back home.

Notes: Children have always disappeared under the right conditions; slipping through the shadows under a bed or at the back of a wardrobe, tumbling down rabbit holes and emerging somewhere... else.

The game takes its inspiration from middle grade novels like Fablehaven, The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and The Graveyard Book. The biggest theme, of course, is the coming of age, or the bildungsroman, as so often occurs during these sorts of stories.

As a portal fantasy, a large part of the story will be about exploring and understanding the new world in which you find yourself. However, danger abounds and doing what is right is not the same as doing what is easy.

System: I am more interested in characters and story than in system mechanics. As such, while this game uses a home-brewed version of Dungeons and Dragons, the fiction will often triumph over mechanics. I will always go the path that makes for a better story.
