Jacinth

Name: Jacinth Arran
Alias:
Age: 28
Character Type: Slide/Spider
Heritage: Akoros, her family has lived in Doskvol for generations
Background: Trade, her father, Taeris Arran, owns an apothecary, the oldest in the city. He specializes in hard to acquire herbs and minerals, including those of an illicit nature. Jacinth works with her father in finding new clientele and maintaining those relationships.

Special Abilities:
Ghost Voice (from Slide) - “You know the secret method to interact with a ghost or demon as if it were a normal human, regardless of how wild or feral it appears. You gain potency when communicating with the supernatural. The first part of this ability gives you permission to do something that is normally impossible: when you speak to a spirit, it always listens and understands you, even if it would otherwise be too bestial or insane to do so. The second part of the ability increases your effect when you use social actions with the supernatural.”
Weaving the Web (from Spider) - “Your network of underworld connections can always be leveraged to gain insight for a job--even when your contacts aren’t aware that they’re helping you.”
Vice: Gambling, any games of chance - the bigger the risk/reward, the better. Also dabbles in “weird”; experimenting has its own risks/rewards.
Close friend: Bryl, a drug dealer, a reliable underworld contract
Rival: Bazso Baz, gang leader, burned with a job gone bad, probably owes him money

Character Summary (credit to Katie - currently tentative):
"The daughter of a wealthy merchant who is in good standing with the government and also trades illegal goods/drugs on the side, it's an open secret. Jacinth is pretty hedonistic, chasing risk and pleasure, and into intrigue but she loves her family and father/legacy most of all. She enjoys making connections she can use to her benefit and treats most conflict like a problem that just needs to be worked out. She knows most of our characters because she makes it her business to know as much as she can the helpful or harmful figures out and about Duskwall. She's hired a few too for various odd jobs (which is how she meets most of us, by learning about us through talk around town of our reputation or skills). The conflict begins when her father has been first harassed by the government, disturbing the peace of the home. This could be pressure or false accusations, or maybe the government threatening to no longer turn a blind towards the illegal activities, which represent a substantial amount of profits and power. They have no title so both the legitimate and illegitimate businesses are crucial both for their wealth and connections. Jacinth feels like she has to investigate what changed and needs to hire a crew who are willing to work for her while breaking the law. The challenge is finding talent who won't stab her in the back or aren't already loyal to another gang. She is very selective about who she'll pick since this isn't any old mission or idle dare among the wealthy upper class. There's also the risk of further angering the immortal emperor or whoever it is that is punishing her family. The first quest is a search for truth and some leverage (potentially murder)."
