Some years ago, when Andrea was a college student, she lived with a roommate who was somewhat obsessed with the supernatural.  Thankfully for all, she had absolutely no magically talent at all.  Unfortunately, she managed to talk Andrea into helping her with a ritual one time.  And Andrea does have some magic talent, and somehow got the ritual to function.  One might say 'work', but that would imply that it did something close to the intended function.  The four housemates got scattered around the dimensions - mostly to nearby realms, but Andrea did not.  It was a realm far beyond human experience, a place with too many angles and a being that can only be described as an eldritch abomination.  It was actually fairly benevolent, sending Andrea back to Earth, but she has never been quite the same since the encounter.

Since that time, she has become quite the scholar of magic.  At first, it was just studying to learn enough to keep herself safe; what NOT to do...  But it turns out that she has a knack for it.  Also, the supernatural just won't leave her alone.  She stands out to anyone with mystical senses, but it's also the fact that she's developed a reputation as a troubleshooter and helpful reference.  She'd rather talk things out, which can be something of a rarity among human mages, who so often 'shoot first, and never ask questions' with anything non-human.

As Madame Glyph, the most noticeable features are the green cape she wears and the Staff of Power she carries, an ornate 6 foot long staff with inlays of golden metal and a few gems.  What she wears under the cloak varies over time, though it is almost always purple with white boots.
