For Elisha, this job as a colony administrator wasn't what she had aimed for when she applied for a job. In fact, she had been rather astonished when she was accepted for the job and learned what it entailed.

For several years, Elisha had lived on the streets of Absalom Station. She had run with various gangs and learned to survive the harsh reality of being an orphan and homeless child. She learned valuable skills on the street, like how to hide and get around unseen. As she grew up, she tried to distance herself from the criminal elements of the street life. She wanted to be a dancer. But doing so wasn't really possible to do, even working as a waitress in a dinner in the docks was still within the reach of the gangs. So at the age of 18, Elisha was talked into participating in a heist at a research facility.

The heist didn't go as planned, and it ended with Elisha's body being flung into a vat of hungry nano-bots. While the tiny machines were ripping her body apart, Elisha found a kind of peace as she felt a communion with the nanites.

Elisha was assumed dead. But several months later, she awoke in a back alley on Absalom Station. Slowly she realized what had happened. Somehow, the nanites were linked to her and had formed a new body for her. This body that for all purposes seemed like a real living body, with blood, a beating heart and even DNA, this body was really made of nanites. And more amazingly, she learned how to control the machines with her mind.

Elisha soon found out that everyone assumed her dead. This was finally her chance to start a life without the crime. Perhaps even finally getting to earn a living by dancing like she always had wanted. She used a fake ID to apply for a job as a freelance dancer though a job broker, and a few days later she was put though a rigorous evaluation process. Strangely, she was offered a job, not as a dancer, but rather as part of an administration team for a new colony.
