Dr. Devon Bishop

Dr. Devon Bishop is a human, born on Earth near Chicago.  She's blonde, a little below average height, but with an occasionally ferocious presence -- she's very no-nonsense and often doesn't have any patience with Starfleet protocol.

Her parents are divorced and both remarried, and she also has a younger brother who is a writer.  With the exception of her brother and her stepmother, she isn't particularly close with any of them, though they aren't estranged and she is at least occasionally in touch with all of them.

Her childhood was actually quite good and happy, somewhat to the surprise of those who assume her attitude might result from bad experiences in her early life.  Her father in particular wasn't demonstrative or very close to her, but he has become proud of her career, albeit a little grudgingly, since while he was glad she followed in his footsteps and became a doctor, he was much less happy with her decision to join Starfleet.  Devon and her mother drifted apart somewhat over the years, though as mentioned there was no estrangement, just a gradual loss of contact.

She doesn't make friends easily as a rule, but once she decides that you are her friend, that will almost certainly never change.  Though she is still in touch with one of her instructors from the Medical Academy, this is a bit more of a professional friendship and they usually only talk about medicine.

Three things: Med-kit (naturally), gardening tools, and a book about a famous doctor, say Elizabeth Blackwell.

Relaxing is not quite in her nature, as she prefers to be busy, but when she has to she is fond of reading.  She also has a few plants that she takes great care of, and has a hobbyist's interest in botany in general.  Similarly, holodecks are largely a waste of time and space.  If forced to run such a program, however, she'd probably go for something historical and preferably also educational.

She was at Wolf 359, aboard her first posting, the USS Excalibur.  Though heavily damaged, the ship was not utterly destroyed, but instead was sent spiraling away from the battle and eventually made a barely-controlled landing on a nearby planet.
