With blond hair and blue eyes, chiseled features, and a toned and athletic body, many women considered Staff Sergeant James DiAngelo to be quite good-looking.  That is, until his last mission, where he, and his team, were exposed to a large amount of weapons-grade fissible material.
James' face, and eighty percent of his body, is now covered in burn scarring from radiation, and his blond hair and blue eyes have both turned brown.  He has lost a bit of strength, endurance, and coordination from the radiation poisoning he suffered, but, of his entire team, he is the only survivor.  Right now, his biggest worry is cancer over the long term.
Now that uniforms are his normal mode of dress, he spends his time dressed for comfort and ease of movement.  Bootcut jeans, sweatshirts, t-shirts, sometimes a buttob-up or polo, denim or leather jacket, workboots, and ball cap or fedora, all worn over a suit of combat armor, and usually a concealed pistol.
He is kind and compassionate, an empathetic man who believes in freedom and second chances.  However, in the course of his military service, he has killed many people ruthlessly and efficiently.  And he remembers the face of every one of them.
Strangely, he can sometimes be seen with a black cat with white on its chest and emerald green eyes, that always stays very close to him.  He refers to this cat, named Maximum Clawage (more often just Max) as his therapy cat.
