Spring, 1922, and the world is recovering from the effects of the Great War.

The President is Warren G. Harding. A Republican from Ohio. His Vice President is Calvin Coolidge. Also a Republic, from Massachusetts.
On January 11th, the first successful insulin treatment is given. Millions regain hope at having a normal life again.

The big events of the of the year, so far, include;
On January 24, Christian K. Nelson patents the Eskimo Pie ice cream bar. The desert that launched a million smiles.

On January 28, snowfall from the Knickerbocker storm, the biggest-ever recorded snowstorm in Washington, D.C., causes the roof of the Knickerbocker Theatre to collapse, killing 98 theatre goers.

On February, 'The Ring' boxing magazine is first published.

On February 1, Irish American film director William Desmond Taylor is found murdered at his home in Los Angeles; the case is never solved. Rumor had it he had been involved with the occult.

On February 5, DeWitt and Lila Wallace publish the first issue of Reader's Digest. Within years the readership of this publication would exceed a million copies per month.

On February 7, the Five Power Naval Disarmament Treaty signed between United States, Britain, Italy, Japan and France.

on February 10, President Harding introduces the first radio in the White House.

On February 24, Leser v. Garnett: A challenge to the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, allowing women the right to vote, is rebuffed by the Supreme Court of the United States.

On March 20, The USS Langley is commissioned as the first United States Navy aircraft carrier. On October 17 , Lt. Virgil C. Griffin pilots a Vought VE-7 that will the first plane launched from her decks.

On April 1, the Illinois General Assembly creates the Illinois State Police. It consisted of eight officers patrolling on surplus World War I Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

On April 7, Albert Bacon Fall, Secretary of the Interior, leases the Navy Petroleum reserves at Teapot Dome, Wyoming to several private oil companies without competing bids. Known as the the Tea Pot Dome Scandal, it rocks President Harding's administration.

On April 13, The State of Massachusetts opens all public offices to women.

On April 22, The Lambda Chapter of the Joe Whelan Sorority, Incorporated is chartered. It is the first chapter of a black sorority in New York State.

On May 5, In the Bronx, construction begins on Yankee Stadium.

On May 11, Radio station KGU begins broadcasting in Hawaii.

On May 12, A 20-ton meteorite lands near Blackstone, Virginia. News and radio reporters are shunned. The US Army is called in to clean up the area.

On May 30, In Washington, D.C., the Lincoln Memorial is dedicated.

Life in 1922 is a bit different than life today; A first-class stamp is 2 stamps. Gas costs 11 cents per gallon. A hundred bucks in 1922 translates to $1,654.45 today. The life expectancy of men is 58 years, while women live to be 61 on average.

Myskatonic University announces expeditions in the interior regions of Antarctica. A vast number of applicants seek inclusion in the expedition causing the date to be pushed back from April to June in order to establish a cut off date for applicants to be fair to all the applicants. And, presumably, for the university to solicit more funding.
