Life in Breckenridge

Hustle. Noise. Pollution. Overpopulation.

They are found in large cities that some people yearn to get away from. There is too much traffic and too many people, yet no one is going anywhere, nor friends being made.

Slower pace. Peaceful silence. The scent of the pine trees.

All are a proverbial drink to those thirsty for a different way of life. It is a list of things found in smaller towns that draw people in. Some come and stay for a little while. Others come and stay for the rest of their lives – drawn in by the pace of life often shown in television shows or popular books.

But there is one thing that small towns share with bigger cities – secrets. No place is free from them, no matter how serene it appears. The town itself. The people. The families. Everyone is hiding something behind their broad smiles and friendly hellos.

Breckenridge is one of those quaint little towns tucked away in the northeast United States. Its setting has attracted a small population of only 6,000 permanent residents. Still, its charming atmosphere draws in tourists throughout the year – people that want to get away from the discrepancies of the large cities. This happens especially in the fall when the rolling hills surrounding the town begin to paint colors only nature can.

It is the ideal location for those who want that escape - sitting at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is only a short, three-hour drive to the Atlantic Ocean. The closest city is Easthaven, which is a 40-minute drive from the town limits of Breckenridge. However, there is something for everyone here: shopping, hiking, fishing, and quiet.

On the surface, Breckenridge does appear post-card perfect, but like every small town, secrets run rampant among residents and visitors. Some secrets are hidden while others are whispered about by the town's busy bodies, the people that seem to know everything about everyone that passes the Welcome to Breckenridge sign.

So, whether you have lived in Breckenridge your whole life, are new to town, or just coming for visit, bring your secrets, the ones that are in the depths of your soul that you don’t want anyone to know about, but remember… there are no secrets that time does not reveal.
