General Appearance: An inch or so over six feet tall, fit with a body used to its share of exertion and hardships tempered with the comforts and diet available to one of high status. Blue eyes - uncommon but not unusual among the von Roehm - gaze out past a strong nose. His face rests in a neutral, serious expression but pleasant company can easily coax out smiles. Leon moves with an easy confidence, having tested his body in various situations, knowing its capabilities and limits. He walks into most rooms and situations as though it is entirely natural and right for him to be there. His voice is low with a bit of gravel, and though he certainly can shout he is typically relatively soft-spoken in private conversations rather than boisterous; a trained court and military habit to make the job of spies and eavesdroppers more difficult. Though his voice can draw people in when telling a story, he is an atrocious singer.



HISTORY

Personality:

Leon is a confident young man, as befits a scion of a Great House, having seen his share of difficulties and victories. He is quick to accept, a bit slower to befriend, much slower to actually trust. He is willing to be patient, understanding that many of those he deals with can end up as both allies and rivals in different ways. He is willing to play politics, even sometimes showing a bit of flair for it, but as a son of the von Roehms knows the true test is in being able to defend or take what you think you have negotiated for.

His time far away from home has made him think more independently out of necessity and reach for what he wants - perhaps the opposite of what his family intended when sending him away, but perhaps an intended part of someone's plan.

Leon, especially since his time in the great cities of Ortho, has an appreciation for the finer things - sumptuous clothes, intricate music, a well-crafted poem. But he is not beholden to them, and still finds enjoyment in the simpler things like the sound of an isolated brook, the twitches of a dreaming dog, or that moment when your enemy's eyes switch from anger to shock before fading to glassy lifelessness.

About Your character:

Leon is the second son of Grand Duke Jurgen von Roehm and Grand Duchess Adelheid von Roehm. His older brother Bjorn (28) is the assumed heir, a strong man, skilled fighter, in many ways the epitome of what one expects from a von Roehm, for good or ill. While brothers of any status frequently form rivalries, in such high stakes circles such things are dangerous and potentially fatal. So to cut things off, Leon found himself assigned to a mission to Ortho, a show of Breiton's support and honoring its alliances.

Over the next few years, while Bjorn cast an unimpeded shadow at the von Roehm court, Leon rode across Ortho, engaging in border skirmishes, scattering bandits, punitive raids, even going in to a few patches of civil strife as part of a force known to have no ties or allegiances to local upstarts. Not every day involved drawn steel, and along the way he experienced life in the great Imperial cities, read some of their literature, philosophy and history, observed their ways of power. While there he saw opportunities as well and set up some new trade arrangements, some smaller ones funded through his own incomes, larger proposals dispatched back to his father or King Stephan for consideration and review.

Roughly three years after departing Leon crossed the frontier back into Breiton and headed home. Before he could get too far, royal messengers diverted his course to Rosemont.

Varus Camillus - older Orthan physician and scholar. Yes he probably COULD craft poisons, but surely that would be against his ethics.



Amanda - blonde Orthan beauty, officially Varus’ nurse/assistant and servant to Leon, actually concubine brought along to make travels more pleasant. Could cast approving eyes at many of the young lords - and young ladies - brought to Rosemont. If there were private words or affections shared surely she would keep those confidential.



Kurt - von Roehm retainer, Leon’s manservant. Very good at darts and other thrown sharp objects.



Uskar - veteran von Roehm soldier, bodyguard.
