The Breaking of Enfys
Enfys: The City That RemainedDuring the first Arrival of the Nonpareili one city and one city only across the whole of the world survived. At least that is what everyone within the shielded walls of Enfys believed. Above the whole of the city, Gramary Tower loomed. It was the people within Gramary Tower's walls that are supposed to be responsible for having saved Enfys from sure destruction during the first Arrival. Now nearly 300 years later it is still known that whoever is within that tower is still pulling the strings and keeping the shielded wall going for the inevitable second Arrival despite nobody seeing hide nor hair of them since the walls sprung up. Knowledge from the tower has seeped out into the city and information, technology, magic, has all been snatched up by those who claimed to be the best to handle it. The powers in place have established themselves fully in the interim years. No true seat of governance is in place but there are the constant patrols of the Letifers who have taken it upon themselves to police the city. They are well armed and capable of a particularly nasty ability of Ghosting anyone who breaks their idea of Enfys Law.
Distinct districts within the city have sprung up, each known for their own idiosyncrasies. The population swell over the last three centuries has caused there to be an overflow and now there are peoples who live, albeit barely, outside the protective walls of Enfys.
One particularly unfortunate bit of information has been leaked to the public. One of the Nonpareili, the otherworldy beings that originally destroyed this world centuries ago, has been beneath the city all this time. It is thought to be the cause of the strange mutations that have particularly sprung up in the district of Glassplace and the strangeness of that district as a whole. Sources unknown believe it is thought to be preparing the city for something but what exactly is not known. The looming threat of the second Arrival hangs over the heads of anyone who cares to care within Enfys, and now the knowledge that they may have never left darkens the hearts of any who may have once held hope. The city is on the brink of falling into turmoil.
