August Pearce

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”

- Lao Tzu

The Basics

Name: Lanuvistë   Gender: Male

Alias: Augustus (August) Pearce   Race: Sidhe (Wyldfae)

Age: 900, give or take a few years. His chosen glamour appears to be in his 30s.

The Physical

Physical Description: The Sidhe are known for their beauty. Beauty that sends humanity into chaos and starts wars. These rumors stem much more from the female of the species.

Male Sidhe are beautiful as well, but true beauty lies in their feminine counterparts. Lanuvistë is a fine male specimen of the Sidhe, but is nothing one would start a war over. Maybe a minor skirmish.

In his true form, he is quite tall, seven feet to be exact, well muscled and has a healthy mane of hair that falls past his shoulders, with pointed ears sticking out between his locks.

Lanuvistë has a strong jaw line, high cheek bones, piercing eyes and a soft yet rugged handsomeness befitting one of his kind.

Alternate Form: August, the Sidhe's chosen alias and most frequently used glamour of this century, would be considered attractive by human standards- though fae and other beautiful creatures put his looks to shame, as they do countless others. Regardless, August is well aware that piercing blue eyes, a strong jaw line and a charming smile can work wonders in a social interaction.

Clocking in at 5'10" and 157lbs, he is a fairly average male specimen. At least on the outside.

August has a wiry musculature that suits his form quite well. He does not have the massive, overly large muscles of a body builder, or the toning of someone who regularly hits the gym. Rather, he has the lean muscles of a working man, of someone who has worked their whole life to get what they want.

Though he does prefer to remain clean shaven, it's not uncommon to spot the beginnings of a beard on his chin from time to time.

August is generally dressed in casual attire such as jeans and a t-shirt (often with some sarcastic remark printed boldly on the front)- unless he's working, of course. That said, though August isn't the type to willingly adorn formal attire, he does clean up quite well when necessary.

Talents & Weaknesses

Skills: Lanuvistë is quite skilled in the ways of war, having trained with the Elves to acquire an aptitude for the bow long ago, and with several of his own kind to garner a taste for the blade. Although, the need for such skills is rare in modern times.

While he has learned general human skills during his time on Earth (driving, the use of firearms, the use of the computers and the internet, etc.) his most notable skill is his silver tongue. As Fae tend to be, Lanuvistë is well versed in persuasion, intimidation and manipulation, in general.

Powers: The average Sidhe lord or lady is capable of opening gates to and from the Nevernever anywhere, not just at specific points. Most are adept at shapeshifting -at least by way of Glamours- and they tend to have a lot of favors owed to them, as well as a lot more skill in dealing with those who have made bargains with them. They boast some degree of control over those who attempt to renege on deals made. On top of this, Sidhe have a combination of inhuman strength, speed and toughness. Not to mention their inherent grace, that seems as natural as breathing.

Generally speaking, Sidhe lords are often as magically potent as a strong Wizard. Such lords commonly boast counter-magic abilities, and are able to block or obviate mortal practitioners' efforts to some degree, if not altogether.

Lanuvistë, in particular, is a creature of change and decay- a Sidhe of the Autumn Court. Where Summer represents life and heat, Winter represents death and the cold and Spring represents rebirth, Autumn represents decay and change and the transition from life to death.

The strength of Autumn, referred to as Abseelie Magic, revolves around the following:

Entropy- the magic of decay, used for causing corrosion of objects and structures, or premature aging of mortals

Change- the magic of shifting, of glamours, of veils. Autumn Sidhe excel at shapeshifting and casting flawless glamours and veils, fooling all of the senses excluding 'The Sight' of practitioners.

Naturally, given Autumn's role in protecting the transition from life to death, Sidhe of the Autumn Court are able to see and convene with spirits and ghosts. If the spirit is willing, the Sidhe is able to help them move on to whatever afterlife awaits. Some even refer to Autumn Lords and Ladies as 'reapers,' and they are naturally opposed to the use of necromancy to disrupt the natural order.

Vulnerabilities: The most common and notable of Faerie weaknesses are:

Circles of Power/Sacred Circles/Magic Circles- Wizards or other practitioners have been known to trap Fae within their circles on occasion.

Iron- All Fae, no matter how big or small, have a weakness to iron.

Lies- Fae cannot lie. They can, however, twist the truth, ommit important bits, and play on words to the point where they are misleading, but not technically lying. It is a skill the Sidhe are known quite well for.

Promises- Faeries are manipulative, the Sidhe in particular; however, if asked to promise (three times for the best results), and they agree to do so, then whatever they said must have been true, at least in the sense of the words. As the Unseelie Accords say, "There is no spirit of the law, only the letter."

Deals- Fae are required to uphold any deal they make (falls into the 'no lying' rule), but they can, if they are clever, get around the terms of their deals with technicalities, loopholes, and nefarious wording of said deals.

Under The Hood

Personality: Lanuvistë is a loyal, intelligent and trustworthy Sidhe. Those traits show in his human counterpart, as well. But, like most of his race, he is manipulative, and tends to play on words rather than intentions.

Given his origins, and his time in one of the Lower Courts, he is sympathetic towards the underdog.

Backstory: The transition from life to death. That is what the Autumn Court represents. As it is not a full fledged court with a Mother, Queen and Lady, it is not recognized by the whole of Faerie as a ruling body. However, there are many Wyldfae who call this court home. Fae who are not drawn to Winter Ice or Summer Fire, but land somewhere in between.

Much like its counterpart, the Spring Court, Autumn is a lower court of Faerie. Unlike the higher courts, Summer and Winter, the lower courts are groups of Wyldfae who choose to serve under one banner, rather than the unfortunate fae creatures born into enthrallment under Mab or Titania. In direct opposition to the ways of the high courts, Autumn and Spring are brought together and strengthened by loyalty to their comrades, rather than forced servitude. Naturally, these methods are looked down upon by the Queens, and the more traditional fae.

These two courts are ruled by Fae Kings, rather than the traditional Queen, with Princes taking the place of Ladies. King Parthalon of the Autumn Court and King Oberon of the Spring Court are on equal standing with beings such as Queen Mab, Queen Titania, the Erlking and Kringle. They are powerful Wyldfae with a lot of influence. However, due to the lack of a Fae Mother in either of these lower courts, they are significantly weaker as a whole, than the higher courts.

It is in the court of Autumn that Lanuvistë, roughly translated to 'Bringer of Change,' made his home. As a Wyld Sidhe, he was not always loyal to Autumn, but joined their ranks in the early fifteenth century and never looked back. After joining and earning his place as a Lord of Autumn, he performed his duties faithfully until the late 19th century, at which point he seceded his position for a time and relocated to the mortal realm.

While he is not an active member of the Autumn Court, he holds his position as a Lord in times of war. This has proven troublesome in past decades, as the necromancer Kemmler and his followers warred with the White Council. The Autumn Court aided the Council in the war with the necromancers, in an attempt to defend their charge- the veil between life and death. Once the clash was over (dubbed the 'Grave Wars' by Autumn's King) and Kemmler was gone, hopefully for good, Lan left the Autumn Court once again.

Lanuvistë has spent his years biding his time, planning for the future and keeping watch over his home in the mortal realm.

The war with Ethniu and the Fomor has disrupted much more than the mortal realm. The ever growing pool of human fear and the many dark powers at play are slowly but surely thinning the veil. Something must be done, before it bursts at the seams.

Connections:
- A powerful group of Wyldfae known as the Autumn Court.
- The Order of the Fallen Leaves- a band of pixies that have sworn fealty to Lanuvistë.
- Local members of the Paranet, based in New York.
- A few members of the White Council.
- Euphoria, a Nymph of the Summer Court. She is equal parts friend and rival.
- William Ruthven, a Lord of the Black Court. He is not quite friend or foe, but rests somewhere in between. August owes him the answer to one question of his choice.
- Runika Servus, a Warlock and previous member of the White Council of Wizards. August has offered her a book deal of sorts.

The Alias

Public Image: Augustus (August) Pearce presents himself as the young, eccentric billionaire he appears to be to the public. Pearce is best known for the research centers he sponsors, which are focused on leading breakthroughs in 'Green' technology worldwide.

Under The Hood: In truth, August is an active member of the supernatural scene in New York, as well as a loyal member of the Paranet. He owns several businesses around town that -discreetly- offer employment to supernatural creatures who are down on their luck.

August seems to have a hand in most of the major moves that happen in New York, but not all of them, of course.

Though he appears human, there is definitely something off about him. This 'human' seems to have a retinue of pixies under his banner, who work faithfully and report to him daily with important developments within the city's limits.

While August is not technically a member of the accorded nations that are protected by the Unseelie Accords, he treats those who are with respect, and will follow the rules of hospitality when requested of him.
