Reality Unbound
Deep in some forgotten part of the Pacific Ocean, a conglomerate of wealthy and powerful people established a research station. Born shortly after the close of World War 2, the laboratory was kept hidden and secret, steadily supplied with the greatest minds of each generation and mountains of cash to fuel whatever their wildest desires could dream up. Despite the cleverness of the idea or those who inhabited it, the goals of those behind the effort were as basic as could be, power. Generation after generation the wealthy and powerful continued to fund their venture, in the vain hope of someday cracking into some deeper cosmological power. Immortality? Precognition? Time Travel? Half of the humor in the thing was that despite the countless year and endless dollars, no one even knew exactly what they were searching for.So when they found it, they didn't even realize what they had.
In the year 2050 two scientists, successfully combined a number of strange particles in a manner most exotic. The resulting output was a thing that shouldn't exist. Couldn't exist. This new particle began to...eat at the very foundations of reality. Like termite infestation, they chewed and ate at the very framework of what humanity known as "real."
They did not have to eat very far to make their presence known.
What no one realized, was that reality as they knew it was a delicate thing. Reality upon reality, build on one another like a fragile house of cards. As this thing that should not exist ate away at one level, it threw the entire structure into turbulence.
And that's when reality started to crumble.
Like a collapsing tower, reality after reality crashed downward, violently colliding with the infinite others.
Existence itself was altered in ways unimaginable.
That was ten years ago.
