The World of Our Desires
When someone truly, deeply, sincerely desires something, their wish may just come true.
No one knows where The Giver came from, or even what it is, but it first appeared in 2019. The first recorded Gift was delivered to a Syrian boy, Adnan al-Khalid, in order to overcome sectarian fighting that threatened his family. Now known as Hamia, Adnan used his newly-given invulnerability to protect innocents in conflict zones across the region.
Since Hamia's Gift, hundreds more desperates have been granted the power required to achieve their goals. Unfortunately, many of the Gifted are not as altruistic as Hamia. Those that desired riches or power have been granted the abilities required to take what they need. Even those Gifted that are not actively malign are often not balanced individuals. Mentally healthy people very rarely have the earnest and intense desires required to summon the Giver. As such, the world is still reeling from the introduction of dozens of super-powered individuals each desperate to achieve their own goals.
It has become clear that when someone is alone and in a time of pure, desperate need, the Giver might appear to offer them the power they need to achieve their goals. The Giver does not appear to be bound by any laws, and hands out Gifts by its own un-knowable whims.
London has had more than its fair share of Gifted. Particularly poorest and most under-served boroughs have the desperation required to attract the Giver, and sometimes it feels like he is hiding in every alleyway. Among the council tenements and bustling streets a number of Gifted have come together to protect their community, and protect the reputations of Gifted as a whole. This game follows their stories.
