For Carter Braun greatness was not hoped for, it was expected. Born to an upper class family he was taught at the best schools in Technochitlan using the most advanced technology available. He followed in the footsteps of his father and became not only a doctor but an impressive surgeon. By the time he was a young man in his late 20's he already had started his own practice  Married to a loving wife Carter's life was perfect. Unfortunately like most people in the city life can quickly come crashing down.

Technochitlan has incredibly advanced technology but there are still things they can not solve. Cybernetic implants are sometimes rejected by the mind and cause a mental condition called 'cyberpsychosis.' Carter's wife was once such victim of the disease. Having solved every problem in his life the doctor assumed he could solve this as well. Years were spent on potential cures and towards his own research into the phenomenon. Yet a true cure eluded him. Eventually even his considerable funds started to dwindle and Carter's desperation grew. When the illegal medical operations he performed came to light Carter lost his license, his money, and then his love.

Yet when one door closes, another opens. Carter soon found that even if he no longer had credentials plenty of people were willing to pay money for surgeons of his skill. He now treated gang members instead of corpos but credits were still credits. Likewise the doctor did not end his research, if anything he only expanded his knowledge. When technology failed to provide an answer he turned to the occult. He started to experiment on the soul until one day he realized he had gained another.
