Ardon Sand is a bastard-born son of House Dayne. His parentage was hidden from him in an effort to maintain the honor of his highborn parent. He knows only that either Ashara or Arthur Dayne was responsible and those in the know refuse to speak of it. Either way, Ardon doesn't resent his parent, he just wants to know their identity. As a child, he was well known for his strangeness. His lack of ever having spoken hampered his relationships with those around him but no matter what efforts were made, he never seemed to have any desire for socialization. Instead, he obsessed over the knights of the household. As soon as he was old enough to hold a sword he was never without one. He trained unceasingly until his body gave out on him. By the time he was 14 he had been labeled a savant. He was still completely unable to socialize, he even had difficulty making eye contact unless staring down a sparring partner. The other children of Starfall, including his young cousin Edric, found him off-putting. This was only made worse when his prodigious strength began developing. Ardon never seemed to mind, though. He contented himself with sword practice. It was a well-known fact that Ardon never spoke but the only time he did was to answer a question from a maester. "What will you be when you're a man, Ardon," he was asked. Ardon answered with only four words, "sword of the morning." Since then his martial achievements have all been aimed at that goal, despite his status as a bastard. Now, at the age of 18, Ardon has set out on his own to earn that title he has striven so hard for.
