Vocifer is a diminutive young woman with red-gold hair the color of an autumn sunset and curls that are as wild a the gleam in her bright blue eyes.  Her features are touched by the striking angles--pointed chin, prominent cheeks, and almond shaped eyes--that betray her elven heritage, but her tiny body bears the robust fortitude of her human blood. Her limbs are unmarred by muscle or callouses--a pale porcelain doll that is accustomed to being served rather than serving. The delightful curves of her body are accentuated the point of distraction by the molded boiled leather armor that shields her life as it strains to contain her figure. All this she discreetly and modestly hides from public view by belting a flowing white tabard and divided white skirt that imply the druidic vestments that she would wear at home. She walks with a blackthorn stick topped with a thick spherical burr.  A wooden shield is slung over her shoulder and is painted deep blue with bright red celtic knot patterns painted over its face.

Background:

Vocifer was born to a common woman of one of the human clans of the Adri forest. Her father was one of those unnamed Elf Lords that are wont to revel with the maids of men on moonlit nights beneath the stars and among the menhir. According to the customs of her people, her mother's pregnancy was a sign of blessing and good fortune. All know that the Fair Folk conceive only with great difficulty which explains why there are so few. A woman so blessed would give any man of the clan strong sons and daughters--and plenty of them. It took little time for her to be gathered up by a bold suitor.

The price for such a blessing, however, is that the child must be surrendered to the druidic order that oversees the clan and its lands.  The Adri forest has over a dozen circles of the Old Faith resolutely defending the dwindling forest from the open incursions of more 'civilized' lands.

Among the druids and the stones of their circles, Vocifer learned the myths and ways of what the Clansmen call The Old Religion. The young girl developed the wisdom necessary to learn ways of her elders, but what truly shone was her presence--especially her voice.  'Vocifer' in the Druid tongue means 'Voice of Iron.' At times her thinking could be flawed, but her personal presence and bearing could overrule the objections of even the most resolute. It was clear that she would eventually possess the ability to rule a Druidic circle of her own.

Accordingly, it was necessary to send her out into the world.  Here in the Adri the matter would be to complicated--too dangerous.  Jealous rivals from within and ambitious loggers and soldiers from without.  She would need to prove herself, on her own, by choosing worthy tasks and building her own reputation. They equipped her simply, consecrated her to their order, and charged her to return to them 'stronger.'
