Olantiel (or Oscar Silverman as he prefers to call himself when mortals are present) is, in human form, a short, stocky man in his mid thirties. He looks a far cry from what people traditionally picture what an angel should look like. Oscar almost always wears off the rack sports coat and pants with a rumpled white shirt and a loud tie that dangles from his unbuttoned collar. On his head rests a battered fedora (a style he picked up back in the 40's and has yet to discard). He's almost always chomping on a cheap, foul smelling cigar.

Olantiel has taken many hundreds of years to become the Angel he is today. When he was created, Olantiel's personality was quite different. He was a raw Seraphim, blazing with a passion for Truth above all else and a notion that his place in the Angelic hierarchy required him to act with divine dispassion. After an achingly short tour of duty in Heaven he was assigned to what Olantiel believed at the time to be punishment for some unspoken crime. Olantiel was to serve among the Mortals on Earth.

Olantiel was filled with despair and he initially had a hard time adjusting to his new life. Earth was a place where Truth was all but forgotten.  Lies abounded, and the forces of Lucifer were getting stronger every day. He tried desperately to cling to his lofty ideals, but found it difficult to achieve perfection. His interactions with humanity puzzled him, as he was constantly surprised by the depths and heights of morality that they could quickly move between.

Over the course of several hundred years, Olantiel felt himself lose touch with his divinity and begin what he thought was his Falling. At the moment of his deepest despair Olantiel was visited by Gabriel. The Archangel explained that the past century had been a type of 'on the job training' to bring the Seraph closer to humanity and to understand the importance of God's greatest creation. Olantiel was told to return to Heaven and serve the rest of his immortal life there.

Upon his return to Heaven, Olantiel realized that he no longer fit in among the Divine. He had come to identify very closely with the mortals, and started to question God's plan given all the suffering and inequality he witnessed on Earth. He spoke out about this to the other Angels trying to get a group to come with him to God to get some answers to some very pointed questions and perhaps get God to make some changes to his so called plan. Gabriel nipped Olantiel's scheme in the bud, exiling him from Heaven for questioning God's plan as Lucifer did in the early days.

Olantiel was cast out of Heaven and told not to return. His bretheren regard him no better than Lucifer - an angel with too much pride who questioned the Divine plan. Many of them think that Olantiel should be executed for his attempt to foster a second rebellion against God. Olantiel has decided to spend his time on Earth fighting the supernatural foes of humanity as it's a great way for him to vent his anger at his unjust exile.

He's a foul mouthed, hard drinking, cigar smoking, pudgy human who seems far from the image of the typical angel that most humans have. While his exterior is gruff, his heart is pure and focused on helping humanity, saving them from the supernatural evils that plague the planet.

History with the others:

• He thinks Brick is, at heart, a good and righteous person. Olantiel feels the need to help him stay that way.
  
• Hugo is technically an abomination in that his spirit should have moved on. Olantiel thinks he should on some level exorcize Hugo and push him on to the afterlife. The problem is that Hugo in life was destined to be The Chosen One. Olantiel is worried that Hugo was wrongfully killed so he's loathe to send him off for fear that Hugo does indeed need to stay on Earth for a good reason.
  
• Olantiel knows that Analia is not listed in the divine 'Book of Life'. He doesn't know what this means except that Analia is not supposed to exist, yet she clearly does.
  
• Autumn fills Olantiel with feelings of sexual infatuation. He's in denial about the associated mortal emotions.
  
• Luthien saved Olantiel's life, and he feels that he owes him for that
