Personality
Varra likes people and that means all people no matter how stupid it would be to trust them. But of couse, just because she likes people, doesn't necessarily mean that she trusts them. She will share her last meal and give a stranger the clothes off her back but she will not get involved in anyone's schemes unless somebody she already trusts vouches for them. She carries a dirk and she knows how to use it and that's it. She doesn't think of herself as any kind of a fighter. She enjoys dancing, the scent of flowers, finding out things she never knew before and the taste of bacon. She loathes cruelty, prejudice and most of all, blatant idiocy.
History
Varra was born into a circus where she was trained from an early age to be a trapeze and high wire artiste. Her family would travel from town to town and in each town she would try to find people with whom she could make friends but mostly, this ended up in a fight with them calling her Moonchild and her calling them Gadjo and blows being exchanged. Nevetheless, she did fall in love and left her tribe when she was 17. Her family didn't mind much even though it was a lost dowry. After all, Varra was the only one in her tribe with no magical abilities whatsoever (apart from the Sight of course but that doesn't count.
When she left the circus, she had a brief but intense fling that ended up with her pregnant and alone in the slums of Baldur's gate. It was here that she met her mentor, who adopted the child and helped her learn about using her skills to make a living in the city and on the road.
Her graduation came after she stole and released a chain of slaves from a gang of Zhentarim. She knew it was stupid but she couldn't help it. Her Mentor did waht he could to set her on a new road with no trace of her path and searched for a body on the road who matched Varra's description. He carried the body and claimed the reward but Varra had to disappear into Waterdeep.
It was in Waterdeep that she met a second mentor who became her lover. They travelled together into the underdark beneath Waterdeep and fought against Illithids and Drow and on one glorious occasion, Aboleths. She still didn't think of herself as a fighter though, especially when her lover showed her ways to work with shadows.
She was already fairly skilled when she met the company of which she is now a member[I NEED TO DISCUSS THE REST WITH OTHER PLAYERS I THINK]

Parent or Mentor
Second Mentor Philemon Bragazzi, a deep Imaskari she knew in Waterdeep. He taught her to dance with shadows and how it could help her in her chosen career as an entertainer and as a thief. He is, as far as she knows, still in Waterdeep and refuses to travel away from it becuase he hopes one day to find a team to delve deep into the Underdark to seek his lost and forgotten homeland.
Enemy
Rasmul (she doesn't know his other name) leader of powerful Zhentarim clan. She is HIS enemy because she has rescued slaves from his clutches (although he thinks she's dead). He is HER enemy because when her first mentor, the fence Fegum Murhathum claimed the reward for killing her, Rasmul coated some of the pieces of gold with a powerful contact poison and took back the reward as Fegum's corpse lay still twitching on the road outside Baldur's gate. He also abducted and no doubt enslaved Fegum's adopted child, who was also Varra's daughter.
Lover
Varra's first lover, and the father of her child was Karim Uruga, a civilised orcish tinker who travelled the roads repairing and making metal goods for whoever needed them in return for gold, food or scrap. Karim was too young to be a fther when he met Varra and they parted on good terms. She still thinks of him fondly.
Plot Hook
The Gur are about due to choose a king and perhaps she could be approached and asked to take her place within her tribe in order to take part in the competition/election/celebration that would lead to a new King being chosen.
