Danger in the Duchy
Welcome to the world of Thera. This campaign is set in a medium-fantasy, homebrew medeival world, where adventurers are uncommon. The overall theme is one of a land in decline, with the forces of evil ascendant. A clash of the gods three centuries ago shook the world and it's people struggle to re-attain the glory of ages past. As the gods of evil reestablish their inroads into the world of men, the peoples of the world are desperate for heroes to fight back...
GAME STYLE
This game will have an overall light feel to it. There are sinister forces at work, to be sure, but most scenarios won't be super intense or dark. It is set mostly in smaller towns and villages and, in the beginning at least, won't heavily feature wilderness survival elements. As the bigger story develops there will potentially be more urban environments and longer treks farther afield. Party composition isn't a major concern, so feel free to play what you want! While I'm not stingy with magic items, they will not be available for purchase.
It should be noted I'll be handling clerics and priests a little differently. The game world experienced a crisis of faith several centuries ago and there are fewer clerics (worshippers of the three main gods) than a typical game to reflect that. Priests of the demigods are on the rise, however. More info can be found in the "Pantheon" and "Character Creation" game threads.
I'm looking to create as immersive a game as I can, so expect full descriptions of your gameworld environments. While I don't place any special emphasis on roleplay, I do make every effort to have my NPCs feel like real people. If you join the game, please feel free to let me know what gameplay elements you enjoy, (roleplay, combat, mystery/puzzle or exploration), so that I can include those elements and make your game more enjoyable!
NOTES ON EXPECTATIONS
This is an all ages game... that doesn't mean no cussing, but it does mean several other things. No adult or mature language or content. This shouldn't require much explanation. On my end it means while there may be violence and swearing, there will be no adult themes, SA, torture, excessive gore (a little is fine once in a while) or anything you wouldn't want to expose younger minds to.
The game is heroic fantasy... that means no murder hobos, brooding loners or edgelords. There is a broader story unfolding as the game world progresses. While the players are free to decide where to go and what to do, they should bear that in mind. Cooperation with and trust in each other will serve players best. While not strictly adhering to the rules of alignment, the game will hold repercussions for those who abuse it.
Posting conventions are rather loose... I am not experienced enough with PbP to lay down or enforce strict posting conventions. For dialog, pick a color for text and stick with it. All spoken dialog should be in quotes. For thoughts, musings and internal dialog, simply italicize it and put it in quotes. No need for a different color. There are no minimum or maximum post sizes, though in the interest of fostering RP, no dialog-only posts. Aside from that, feel free to post however you feel comfortable. Die rolls are to be spaced one line away from rest of post, copied from log and posted in orange text.
GENERAL NOTES
I tend to run lean games. For this game only materials presented in the PHB, DMG, ToM, and the Wizard and Priest Handbooks will be used. For a complete rundown on house rules and homebrew, check out that thread. I am pretty new to PbP and this site, so I would ask that players have access to at least the PHB on their own (though this is not set in stone).
I am primarily running this game on mobile, so I can check in frequently. I do understand that life gets busy sometimes and not everyone can devote the same amount of time to the game. Having said that I would ideally be asking for at least a daily check in. If something is going on and you know you won't be on for a stretch, just drop me a mssg. Extended absence may result in play continuing without your input. All of this is subjective and I will make every effort to be accommodating without the game grinding to a halt for long periods.
