Here first. Hello, everyone! Looking forward to sharing my story with all of you.

My guy can be from any of your worlds. I'll post my story from the RTJ out later today in the character thread.

   Hello everyone. Happy to be part of this game. Hopefully we can make it epic in more ways than one.

   I will be your human wizard for this adventure, probably focusing on control. I should also be useful to the group when it comes to rituals (unless the GM hates those) as well as knowledge skills.

To note for my fellow party members, here are Thomas's best skills. I'm trained in those but Streetwise.

 16 | Perception

Harald, despite being a slow dwarf has a lot of powers that let him shift, sometimes quite a way.  He is also not bad at pushing and sliding.  He has very strong defences (all of them).

Perception 21 and dungeoneering 16 are probably useful to the party.  Athletics and endurance 18 are of more use to himself.

   A scottish dwarf ! Welcome :)

   Agon focuses on knowledge skills : Arcana, History, Religion. All trained, as well as Diplomacy and Insight.

Surprisingly I'm a Barbarian that isn't.

I'm not trained in Nature but I have a 20 in it. My best are Arcana 29, Religion 27, Streetwise 26. Think I should train in it because it wouldn't mess anything up if I did.

If it's any comfort, Nature is not so terribly useful in the Outer Planes :-)

   I haven't found any theme I like for this character, but I was thinking of building a custom theme based on two official themes from Neverwinter.

I like how you used existing features from existing themes to build a new one. Approved--just list the detail in your character sheet.

I'm going to probably be the only one not picky on my magic items. If I got some sort of thunder/lightning weapon to go with my powers that would be awesome. But other than that, feel free to throw me a bone. I am happy just playing the game.

With my Commander's Strike, you get the following bonuses:
+1 Attack, +10 Damages

If you use an Action Point, you can the following bonuses on your attack:
+4 Attack, +8 Damages

If I use Inspiring Words on you, you get the following bonuses:
+12 Attack, +8 to Speed

If I spend an Action Point, you get the following bonuses until EomNT:
+1 Attack

Some of those bonuses may stack. For exemple, I use an action point to heal you, and on your turn, you use an action point to make an attack, you would get the following bonuses:
+17 Attack, +8 Damages, +8 Speed

Another exemple is If I heal you, then use an action point to use Commander's Strike on you. The bonuses would be +14 Attack, +10 Damages and +8 Speed.

If we are in the first round of the fight, you also get a +2 Attack.

There is a way to order it to have you do both attacks. So, if we play it well in encounters, we can do a lot of damages in the first round.

   Welcome Nemeroff.

   Agon's RBA is a 16 force dmg Magic Missile. Not much, but range 20 and an automatic hit.

   The bonuses you give us are impressive. Let's just hope your evil twin doesn't work for Tiamat ;-)

P.S. : is there a level range for our wish list items ? level + 3 ?

I will post the beginning of the story later tonight. I'm going to accelerate the beginning by making some assumptions about your acceptance of the mission so we can dive into the meat of things faster.

Looking over Harald's sheet tonight I realised he has a lot of movement powers.  He could probably flit through a battle striking as and when he wanted. Most of these have him adjacent to the bad guys but he also has a lot of defence abilities, resists and things which help him with saves.  He also has quite a few that push, pull and slide the enemy.

Letting folk know so that we may be able to plan accordingly.

Okay, a word to the wise/ about your wish lists:

Your DM has next to no interest in magic items. A wish list item in general terms will do nobody any good.

If you don't know a specific item that you want--I mean down to the enhancement bonus desired--then don't put it on the wish list.

I would encourage you to bring those undefined items to the rest of the group so you can help each other define items. In the mean time, you can keep then on the list; I just don't have the time or energy to research your options for you.

Thought it was worth mentioning: my ranged basic does 2d12+35 HP damage.

   Not sure if you've had a look at the character sheets yet, but I just realized I did not meet the prerequisites for one one my feats (Wizard Implement Expertise - Arcane Power), so I switched to another one (Quickened Spellcasting - Arcana Power).

Giving Marice, Harald, Nemeroff or Thomas today to post; if not, I'll wrap up this wee skill challenge tomorrow with the current responses.

   Agon can cast a cheap, 10 min long ritual to give the group fast flying mounts for 12 hours or so. He doesn't have access to a ritual to scry into the settlement from so far away, though.

@GM : do you allow taking 10 on rituals ? also, how long does it seem to be until nightfall ?

If the DC is 30 or less based on your Arcana skill of 30, you can assume success and that you took 10 for a tota of 40, yes. If the DC is higher than 30, then no.

FYI,  my posting may be erratic for a few days as I care for my youngest who is in the hospital being treated for an infection around his eye. As you are likely several real-world days away from combat, this presents no real difficulty, but I thought I would let you know.

Agon, are you going to make flyers of the party? I would like to move the story along.  If so, you should probably pose that IC and assume the other PCs are going along with it.

(Unless one of your characters is afraid of flying, of course.)

   Yes. The ritual is Phantom Steed (PHB - http://www.wizards.com/dndinsi...um/ritual.aspx?id=26).

   Our flying mounts last 12 hours, have a speed of 20 and can fly up to 10 squares high (hopefully above treetops).

Today: Agon rolled 44. Arcana check - Phantom Steed ritual.
70 gp worth of ritual components spent.

Giving Marice and Nemeroff a chance to post today, then moving along with the assumption you're flying down.

Very sorry for the delay, folks. Your epic-level solution threw a curveball into my planning, so I had to regroup. Not a problem, but that planning was also complicated by real life.

Fair warning: Marice and Thomas are both on hold right now. I'm not replacing them as I'm giving either the chance to jump back in later, but we will pretend they don't exist for this fight at least.  I'll scale the encounters appropriately, naturally.

As an Hybrid I can use Inspiring Words three times per encounter. This is not bad.

True, but if you look IC, I'm illustrating my point. One bad round can turn things....

I should have shut it up.

   There both got hit by my attack ? If so, the giant should be between Harald and Nemeroff where my power teleported him. Or has he moved on his turn ?

Sorry I missed it on first pass, my mistake.

That changes the turn only slightly.  I corrected their locations, but the actions are pretty much the same--giant stabs Nemeroff and then shifts. Chuul takes 10 fire (failed the save) but still stands up and pounds the hell out of Nemeroff.

Some recommendations, Agon:

1. Write out the word "teleport" for me--shorthand like you used is harder to follow.
2. Please don't use small text on the OOC stuff. It's hard for me to read. Orange text is fine.

It will be easier for you all to pound the giant into kibble.

So everyone knows, Nemeroff has an interrupt that will probably keep him conscious long enough to heal himself.

Assuming that the current baddies' location is right on the map for this next post.

Would it be possible to have something to track our hit points and effects on us. When doing my turn, I need to know who is really in need of healing and who might needs to do a saving throw.

Also, it would be useful to include our MBA and RBA.

I have been posting a running status in my turn updates. Check out my last post and you'll see your own hp; I'll be listing conditions there as well. I don't like using external tables/spreadsheets. If someone wants to work up a table that I can re-use here, I'll put the status in a table instead in the posts. I'm not very good with such things. :-p

I must admit that forgetting to say I have marked a target is a bad habit I have picked up.

I will do better in future and specifically mention the mark.  It is particularly important for Harald as his job is to soak up all those nasty attacks and protect all you squishies!  I have tried to build him that way.

FYI, I will be offline the large majority of the day--look for more from me tomorrow.

Do you mind if I roll the free attacks I'm giving aournd the battlefield? It could make the encounter faster. I'll use the info provided in my cheat thread...

   Since we haven't done much in game yet, isn't it easier to just pretend he's been here from the start ? We could use the Chapter 1.1 thread to get to know one another.

   Otherwise, my character - a wizard, scholar and devotee of Ioun - has traveled to other planes on occasion, so he might have met Gromley on Eberron or Sigil. Alternatively, Gromley may have traveled to the Timeless Sanctuary - seeking obscure lore - and met Agon there.

I have posted my turn, and I'm waiting to see if I'm going to use my action point this round.

I need to amend my statement--Harald and Zog can make three checks since they can see all three types of enemies, two Religion and one Arcana. I'll send a PM to Agon with the results of that roll above.

If someone is immobilized, can a power I use that gives them movement still force move them?

   If it's a forced movement (push, pull, slide) or a teleport, yes. But giving them a move action won't work, as they can't move by themselves.

From where I am, I'll be able to hit all the enemies around twice and maybe give some free Basic Attack away.

Nemeroff, Agon and Gromley, you all need to re-do your turns as Lady A drops from Zog's attack. Please post here to let me know when you've revised your turns.

   I was expecting her to drop, no need to change my actions as far as I'm concerned. Except to not target her with my attacks (Spell Accuracy feat) - maybe there'll be enough left of her after Zog's attack for interrogation.

The situation IC is the kind of situation that I hate having to do in play-by-post, but find myself doing here. If this were tabletop, I'd let Agon & Nemeroff minister to the lady for a bit and find out a little more teaser information. However, that "side conversation" could take days and would delay your entry into the key scene coming up next. Thus, I'm metagaming a bit and asking the minority to go along with the majority.

   No problem at all. There's no good reason to stay behind, so you can consider that Agon follows the rest of the group to track the soulthief.

I agree, Nemeroff will follow.

I am going to a wedding in Montana with only my iPad to keep my company. This means I can't update a map, so I'll be avoiding starting any fights over the weekend :-)

FYI, you do not have a set timeline to work against. You are welcome to do whatever you like, including take an Extended Rest.

   A short rest is enough for my character, but if someone could use an extended rest we should take the opportunity, our next fights will probably be tough.

Well, Shaped Conciseness is when I engage the monster in a debate on the pointless and ridiculous nature of existence, and why they should not bother us and instead go have fun.

'Shaped Consciousness' however is the power I meant to use...and you can see the results on the map.

Why is the troll in the middle of the water? Whose attack moved him?

   My attack was a crit, which lets me teleport him (paragon feature).

So Harald is in the water.  OK He needed a wash anyway.

Now what?  He is no longer dazed (save at start of turn thanks to Clearheaded).  He failed the save vs prone so he is prone in the water with heavy armour.

Start of his turn he is pushed 2 by the water and reached the Troll.  I do not know what the effects of trying to fight in deep water are but he will surely try to fight.

I may not be able to post again till tomorrow but have posted Harald's immediate reaction.

Firstly, you need to make an Athletics check to stay afloat and move--relatively easy for you (DC 25) but there's a chance you'll not be able to move.

Secondly, you have to spend a move action to stand to remove the prone condition, if you want to.

Third, you will move 2 squares south from the current this round unless you fight that. Note that if you let the current carry you south, that happens at the start of your turn, so you'll be right next to the troll and be able to attack him this round if you spend the move action to stand up.

If you roll your attack tonight, that would be cool. If not, that's fine. I can move your mini if you want.

Can I use betrayal on a target to make them attack themselves? Or can I use it on one of my fellow PCs?

You can't make them attack themselves. You normally can't target another PC, but in this plane, I'd let you--just be aware that this might have unexpected side effects because of Monadhan's nature.

The power specifies you have to attack an enemy with the power. If you decide your ally is now an enemy, that means, in my mind, for the rest of combat you couldn't consider them an ally--you couldn't heal them, you couldn't aid them, etc.

If you're willing to take that step and make one of your allies your "enemy" for the rest of the encounter, I'm totally fine with that in any circumstance. And, like I said, if you do that in Monadhan, I'd let you do it anyway--just beware :-)

   Re. Gromley's last betrayal use on the snake, she probably can't move that far toward us since she's slowed after my attack. It probably won't matter though.

Harald's axe does not do extra damage as normal.  It scores a crit on 19 or 20 and if it does a crit it adds 20 ongoing damage (save ends)

I have a question about elevation.

My range with my shaped consciousness is close burst 10. Given our foes are at different positions, where could I place the shaped consciousness to get line of sight on them?

Can you move your shaped consciousness after it's created? Just generating it 10 squares up won't give you visibility to all of them. Some of the foes are 24 squares up.

It moves as I move, without needing a move action of its own. So I guess it could get up to 15 spaces up in one turn. Could I place it in a spot where those guys at the highest point could not see it? Say, right next to the huge pillar they are on? That way, unless they look straight down, they would not see it.

Edit-by using my standard action as a move action, I can move it another 5 spaces up-thus getting it to 20 in one turn. That means its 4 spaces lower than the platform-aka-20 feet.

   If there's time to cast it before the fight begins, I will cast a ritual (Tenser's Floating Disk - 10 min) to use as a lift, in addition to the rope. That should not change the actions I just posted though.

How does the rope affect my climbing speed?

Assuming I still climb at half speed I plan on taking a double move this turn which will put me 5' from the top.  Next turn, if nothing else changes, I plan on scrambling over the edge and charging the spikey thing.

Fair point to note: I have just switched jobs and will be on the road a bit more than usual for the next few weeks. During the weeks of Christmas and New Years, I will be home, doing some work from home and with some time off as is customary. This means I'll be posting once per day on average this month, but may miss a day here or there if RL gets crazy.

I plan on continuing this game for the long term, so everyone knows, so nobody have any concern that way.

Well guys, I am officially here. Thanks to Bahamut of course sending me directly to you. I goofed up a couple rolls there Epic. I rolled d6s not d8s for Sneak Attack, and then my Sly Flourish rolled the same as the damage from Sudden Bolt, so I rerolled that.

Epicone:  Just a not to clarify Harald's wound situation.  He did not take a short rest or spend any surges so he still be down 18hp from before.  He should now be down 32hp.

They are not  on the top ledge--they are on the second-lowest ledge, in fact, all save the Storm Devil, who's considerably higher up and away from you where you can't see each other.

Because of the icons I can't read what height that ledge is.  What height is it?

Well, it would take a pretty remarkable jump roll to clear the entire cliff, but you could try. Worst thing that would happen is that you get a better starting point for your climb, like you said.

Come to think of it, Harald & Nemeroff, why don't you try that as well--make another Athletics check on top of your climb to see how high you can jump to start with. Jump speed is at full speed, after all :-)

If the DM will let you, you could turn part of your climb into a charge and attack any of the devils next to you. I don't think the storm devil is bloodied so it's still there.

How far does the ghost try to push Harald?

Remember, as a dwarf Harald is pushed 1 less.  So if the push is only 1 then he is not pushed.

I will do my saves after I hear from you.

You assume I forgot that :-) You can assume that I took your dwarf ability into consideration when I wrote up the turn. With the -1 to forced movement he still had enough push to get you over the edge, barely. If you have an ability to further impede the push by 1 square, you won't need to make a save.

I also hope you don't mind the high-combat time here. There will be more roleplay- and skill-intensive parts of this story arc; this is just the "fight your way in" part of this chapter.

It is finished by now. The short rest where you spent surges ended the stance.
