Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

My computer just gave up the ghost today. The screen stopped displaying anything, though it's lit up, so I'm figuring it's either the  monitor that somehow burnt out or else the videocard went out. Or maybe the hamster died.

Anyway, I can use my friend's computer on a more sporadic basis until I can get mine fixed or replaced.

Anyway, I'm still around; I just may not be able to stay on top of things all that quickly.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

You simply need to write something like:

"Ah I see. Well I'm Selenia the Red Witch, a pleasure to meet you!" the red-cloaked woman replied as the crow on her shoulder peered around in silent curiosity. The wolf that was laying at her feet was chewing on a piece of beef jerky the woman had recently given to her, although she looked at the people speaking to the red-cloaked woman warily.

"Do you speak draconic by chance?"
she asked. "The sky is blue. Can you understand what I just said?" she followed up in Draconic.

Hey all,  I'm sad to have to say this, but it's become clear to me that I will not have time for much/any gaming through seminary, which started a few days ago.  30+hours of week each for my employment work and my school work leaves me with not enough time for my wife and children, let alone time for enjoying myself with you all.  I hope that when I graduate (or when some to-now unknown relative leaves me a fortune in their will so I can stop working while I do school?) I'll be able to come back and join you all again.

Apologies for my lack of posting, but I've been sick this past week. It was bad enough Monday that I should have gone to the ER, according to my doctor, but by the time I saw my doctor, it had mostly passed. However, it did take its toll on me. My brain's been a brick and my body feels like it got run over by a herd of elephants.

I honestly didn't expect it to last the whole week, but then my car broke down on the highway on Friday on the way back from the doctor, dragging it out further.

My brain finally came back on-line yesterday, but body is still sore. I should start getting caught up on my posting later today.

The pit is an illusion, apparently it hasn't fooled the Yuan-ti or the half-breeds that saw their leader slither across it, so they've closed with Alison and Marik and hit both of them.

When that happened, Sylvandria recognized it as a Mirror Image. Apparently, though, its action did not disrupt that image. She can attempt to attack it, and if she hits it, it vanishes, leaving one less image to be the real Yuan-ti.

Otherwise, she'd have to move to reach one of the others, which might or might not be the real one.

I want to apologize to Starmaster and Grey for having been slower than usual in my posting times lately. I've been super busy in rl but not enough to want to quit the game or anything (I won't ever just vanish).

I'm working 56 hours/week, but also in the process of buying a new property and that's eating up a lot of my time and energy too. Also I'm preparing to go on vacation in the middle of august to Cancun too. But I'm still around. :)

Yeah I've been a busy beaver.

Today I just spent a couple hours getting the home inspected and going over things with the inspector and my realtor. There are some issues but nothing necessarily enough to kill the deal, but I may need to have the seller adjust their price or fix things before closing. I am hoping to get the inspection report by tomorrow sometime.

I can't wait for August 12th though, since that is when I go on my vacation. I get back home on august 19th but then have camping to do...I will be "totally back" on August 22nd.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.

For those who may not have heard, eight days ago on Sunday night just after dinner, I suddenly developed a severe stomach pain--level 7. While I struggled with it for half an hour, figured it was probably food poisoning. It wasn't like any other stomach pain I'd ever experienced before. Then I wound up throwing up 4-5 times, though afterwards the pain level was only 5. An hour later, I threw up 2-3 more times and the pain level dropped to 3. And there it stayed. No more throwing up, and it didn't go away. I couldn't find any position where the pain was lesser, and it was too high to let me sleep. Finally called the EMTs about 1 a.m. and off to the ER I went.

A dose of femital (or something) dropped the pain to 1, and eventually it went completely away. However, the hospital continued to run its test to try and determine the cause. I'm not convinced that they ever did. One doctor concurred that it might have been food poisoning, but the other doctor concluded that it was a problem with my gallbladder and recommended I have it removed. He scheduled laposcopy surgery for Wednesday. If it went well, I'd be hope by Friday. Turned out it was in bad shape and required full abdominal surgery to remove it.

Let me tell you... in all those movies/shows when they talk about a painful wound to you abdomen, they aren't kidding! Every muscle in your chest and abdomen, and a few in your arms and legs, are all tied in together. So every deep breath, every burp, every hiccup, every yawn, every laugh, every cough causes excruciating pain! This is on top of the pain meds!

Every movement... sitting up, standing up, sitting down, laying down, stretching, reaching, bending... causes pain. One such movement at a time is usually okay, but then requires an hour of sitting still and getting over it.

Alas, the hospital's discharge procedure was rather inept on Sunday, and I wound up having to make a dozen such movements so that I could get my meds from the pharmacy before it closed. So after I got home and settled in, it took around 8 hours for the pain to subside.

It's slowly getting better, but will probably take 5-6 weeks for the surgery to completely heal and the pain to completely go away.

But, I'm back! Not sure how much I'll get to in the next two days... have to reorganize the house a bit as I'm mostly fending for myself.

Anyway, I apologize for the absence and lack of word.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

Apologies once again for the delay. Last Friday, internet was out and continued for half of Saturday. Monday I picked up a virus/malware that screwed up Windows Edge browser, and it would no longer load anything from the internet. Didn't know what the problem was, though, so I put it into the computer shop. Turns out, Edge is so intertwined with Windows now that I have to reload Windows, which could wipe out a lot of my material.

Also, I just discovered that, somewhere along the way, I've had a lot of files deleted. May be more than the ones I've found so far.

And then RPoL was down for a couple hours yesterday.

Kind of bummed right now, but I'll get caught up today or tomorrow.

Just an FYI...

Hurricane Irma may come knocking at my door over the weekend, and while I don't plan on answering, power and internet might go down for a day or two.

Anyway, been prepping for that, as well as dealing with a few other RL (minor) issues that just seemed to gang up on me.

Still alive!

As bad as Hurricane Irma was, it wasn't all that bad. Almost no building damage has been reported, not even broken windows, but signs and lots and lots of trees have been uprooted.

15 million people without power. It's starting to come back online now, but probably won't have it at the house for another 2-3 days. Posting from a friend's workplace, which never actually lost power because it was part of the evacuation route.

All we had were a few roof leaks, and the backyard fence got blown down.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

10.5 days without power!

Lost power on the 9th just around noon as the hurricane passed by.

No power, no AC, no lights, no stove/microwave/toaster oven, no hot water, no TV, no computer, no modem, no internet.

Florida. Summer. Hot. Humid. Sat around in the dark and sweated. Didn't sleep well, didn't eat much.

Couldn't go anywhere since most places were also without power.

For a few days, gas was scarce, because most gas stations didn't have power, and so couldn't pump gas. The few that either had power or emergency generators had long lines and then ran out of gas. Tried getting by on ice, but so was everyone else, and ice quickly sold out.

Finally got power back about 8:30 last night.

So now we're cleaning up the mess.

It'll probably be another day or two before I get caught up on all my games.

The difference between earthquakes and hurricanes is that earthquakes tend to be more devastating in a smaller area, while hurricanes tend to be less destructive overall but do so in a much greater area.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

Apologies for the delay in getting back to this game. Had a family event on the 24th, with people coming in from out of town. Spent the week before cleaning the house and straightening things up and whatnot.

It only lasted one day, but it wiped me out the following day, and then I had a medical procedure the next two days, which wasn't a big deal, but somehow managed to wipe me out the rest of the week.

A warning to everyone: DON'T GROW OLD! IT SUCKS!

I just don't have the energy I used to. Running errands during the day or doing chores seems to wipe me out by 6pm. I sometimes manage to get a few posts in here and there, but if it requires THINKING... not gonna happen.

In the midst of all this, my friend and I are trying to start up a new ftf game, since we haven't done any in several years now. Actually, it's more of a campaign, and we're OCD, so we have to dot all the t's and cross all the i's.

Getting back to it finally...

I have nothing but respect for starmaster.

He's had this thing going for like over 3 years now I think, and the sheer scope and size of this thing is astronomical and he's always usually very responsive and such to all the groups. I myself am on a hiatus of sorts (that he and grey know about) as my rl is a bit too busy right now, but he's always been great with communication.

It's actually very weird to me to see he hasn't logged in since late September. His track record is excellent in my eyes.

Still here.

Got busy in RL. As I've explained several times already, though maybe not int his game, ever since I had gall bladder surgery early February of last year, I've been a bit off. I have lots of time to post, but I wind up getting tired way too early in the evening. Brain power wanes quickly. Even if I try to read a post, I can read it ten times and still have no idea what I just read.

I thought things were turning around a month or so ago, as I seemed to be able to return to my normal routine. Maybe the busy week has triggered a bit of a relapse. Or maybe I'm just getting old.

Anyway, getting caught up today and (hopefully) tomorrow.

Question about the combat, is it more similar to chess or roleplaying. One i have more details and a bit more control while the other is abstract and the details are fuzzy.

I move to A-3 and try to power attack the hobgoblin.
/rolls power attacking to hit hobgoblin

I rush at the hob goblin on the right swinging my weapon with heavy handed blows.

It depends on the situation, but usually tends to fall somewhere between the two and is often a mix of both.

In the current situation, there aren't enough characters or monsters to shift into full-blown combat mode, so it's a bit of abstract battlefield combat with role-playing.

The expeditions themselves are like mini-adventures you're doing on behalf of the JAGGS Society. We're there to hunt things down, explore, catalogue, and sometimes actually help people or provide a service.

Some of the adventures are more social, others combat heavy, others more explorative or investigative. You go and talk to Ariana and see what jobs are available, pick one, gear up, and she sends you out. If other PCs go with you, you work together with them as a team but your character sheet transfers over from adventure to adventure.

Emerald shrine is basically learn and report archelogical mission at a mysterious shrine discovered deep in the jungle somewhere, it's a known 'temple' but almost nothing is known anout it as people thst go in don't often come out.

JAGSS is the guild/company that is sponsering our adventures and serves as a home base and hub. The dm npc is a divination type interested in all forms of information gathering, particularly information at risk of being lost or forgotten. To this end JAGSS recruits and attracts talented individuals.

Some of us are in awe of the powers Ariana wields, simple curiosity,  others come in search of excitement, wealth, acceptance, asylum or as kindred spirits.

Whatever your motivations are, most none revenge motivated pcs can find a reason to look in or seek JAGSSs out, and most pcs can find a few reasons to stay. It's a lot like early Fairy Tail anime in some aspects.

Crunchy bits all done. I actually ended up going a different direction than originally planned and multiclassed with Bard. So now I'm a Bard (Fey Prankster)/Oracle (Whimsy). Face skills, sneak skills, debuffs galore. Should be pretty fun to play. I'm not particular as to which expedition I end up in, so I leave it up to the GM to drop me into whichever one is most in need of a player.

Awi I am very old role player.  Hay my first D&D was a red box just after they revamped it the first time.  So you can work out how old I am.

Some of the best parties I been in is when my character and another did not get on.
In one the elf I played and dwarf always at each other.
However when the group got into fight dwarf took many a wound to protect my elf and in return I kept him alive with loads of healing through many combats when he should have die.

So we are cool.

I don't have a specific senario played out, but my gut is think Norgorber cult/church and the drow who seem to be new to pathfinder, jointly experimened to breed half drow that could pass as human.  Combining the elven abilities with dark vision and low light. To create a  better assassin capable of working on several levels and able utilize effects to hamper his marks vision without negatively effecting his own.

I'd diverging here from what I have thought out to bring a bit more of the evil forced out, since your mixbreed is something of a unexpected golden oppertunity. I'm thinking Awi nay have bern put through a deathpool with other such mixed elves by the cult of norgerber in a purely evil fashion and it's created a schism inside him.  Who wanted to be, vs what he has done.

Simply seeing you causes all those repressed kill or be killed 'dog foghts' he has blocked out to swell up and put pressure on his conciousness while triggering a flight or fight responce.

He is a trained proffesional, and keeping outward cool without giving anyone reasons to roll sense motive except maybe Archibald.

Inside he is having a mild panic attack and isn't sure why, his gut tells him it's kill or be killed.

His mind wonders why, and if your an assassin sent after him or that followed archibald after he ghosted Norgerber in the capital. Reading as of a list drives home a sense of checking off a list.

It's all internal, i'm assuming thhat half drow elfs have a few unique bone or eye markers as a hybrid offspring, possibly in the way their eyes reflect light.

You simply have the face of his boogie man by no fault of your own, I just haven't processed this and only bits of it will come out slowly. He's drawing a weapon half instinctively and half subconciously out of a need to protect himdmself. He is skilled at slieght of habd but this also creates role play oppertunities so i listed it, not as an attack but something Awi did in fact do that could be troubling to others.

Then, one day, when you acquired that last experience point you needed, you woke up one day and said 'Eureka!' as all those things you'd been training for suddenly mad sense.

Perception dc = Lowest party member stealth modifier + 10 plus 2 for everyonrme that can roll above a certain ammount, Maybe partial concealment bonus since we want to peek?

rolled 2-3 times as a mini game depending on how long we have to hide?

Any opposed?

Ok lowest stealth roll + aide other attempts then.

I think our group is waiting to see what happens, and AJ and Jarvis are the only ones in a position to really peek out. Is there anything you want from us while we wait, I can't think of any useful actions to take besides making stealth checks again to stay hidden from the other two groups.

I'm not sure if i'm very aware of either group in character i'd think. From a meta aspect my character not inclined to support either one, but the Nirmathas group sounds like they would be more friendly/understanding of the two in a pinch. Either group might have hard feelings about a ex-cheliax soldier though.

Why the heck is there only 1 18##'s year in the 18th century if there is even 1? Is it a Counting numbers thing, I hate counting numbers.

1st Century should be 100-199.
0 Century, or the first 10 decades, should be 0-99

instead we get this

1700-1799 is the 18th Century?

Thank you all for the well wishes.

The problem with the dating is that ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) don't have a direct correlation with the cardinal dating. Ordinal deals with position. Thus, the 1st Century is it's position in the dating system. It covers year 1 to year 100, as 100 would mark the end of the 1st Century/hundred years.

It does get confusing. And it's only because of computers that year 1 has to be entered as 0001.

On the subjects of skeletons, Xanth has several mechanic and fluff aspects that improve or explains many of the unusual physical imposdibilities.  Such as vocal cords and holding the bones together. Its been decades since i read "heaven cent" believe it was cartilidge as string, glue, and filler as needed. Such as keeping water from sinking the bone boat immediatly.

There are essentially not limits to the usefulness of a body, living or dead.  There are less complaints in making such use if the body is already dead in my humble experience.

Druids would like to have a chat with you about your constructs, and their exclusion from returning to the circle.

Cleric would like to have a word about you stealing Chips from the celestial boardgame table.

It's all fine till recylcing decides to recycle you. It's the smell, disease, empathy, that people have a problem with, that and the little things like soul binding, increased agression, general destructive behavior, tendancy to recycle others.

People tend to have a prpblem with uncle joe finnally getting that back porch for his favorite rocking chair that burned in a house fire back. Getting yanked back into a defective meat bag and locked inside. If thaylts not bad enough, uncle joe gets a front row seat to Aunt Jill's very own horror movie.

http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots1086.html

No Chas, your character irreprehinsibly insane in the membrane and torturing your dear family(well maybe its a reprieve, who knows) by shackling them here.  Most of JAGSS would probably not wish you on their enemies but wouldn't say it to your face, we are a accepting organization.

Necromancy has it's value, but many of it's spells are cruel on many levels. Others are just plain mean and horrifing.

Cthulu approves, tear down the foundations that shield you from the outer realms, tear holes in Faerun's wall, steal from the fey that shekter the collective psychic energy of the planet from the outer realms, steal from the battery piles of the divine, and drive you victims insane in their rotting tombs.

You should be devours later then some.

I ran a game once where the PCs visited a city ruled by a necromancer. He used undead as his police force. When the PCs finally killed the necromancer, there was now no one to keep control of the undead and they began attacking the citizens.

Having killed the necromancer, the PCs felt that their job was done and left, leaving the citizens to deal with the several hundred undead now running amok in the city.

This EXACT issue is showcased in rise of the shield hero.

the other heros were going around doing 'heroic deeds' and then leaving immediately.

One caused there to be a zombie dragon, another caused a town to be over run by rampant cursed man eating plants that rapidly reproduced....
Etc etc etc.

It's all well and good to go after the big honcho bad guy but, ya, murder hobos tend to forget about consequences. 'hey, I killed the dragon and looted the treasure hold, adventure over now... right?

Berserk is the story of of a barbarian that walked away from a swashbuckler.

Goblinslayer and Monsterhunter generations explore what happens when adventures do half measure and monsters get smarter.  RWBY explores this partially.

Wiseman's grandchild touches on it slighty, Most of tge new life in another world explore adventures doing the right thing. Deathmarch to another world is quite stable.

Re:Zero explores in depth actions and consequence.

Grimgar of fantasy and ashe? explores the opposite, the effect of adventuring on adventures.

Adventurers have more power, Fewer responcibilities (When was that last time your cleric got recalled by their church or order?), and considerable freedom crossing borders.

Thus, my point is made for me generous fellows.  The necromancer with a heart of gold, a true friend to the living and the dead, is as much a hero as the next adventurer, and certainly more than many as he honors the dead in his own way.

Of course there are different moral values relative to the dead, and we certainly see that many do not share Chas' perspectives and value of the dead, but if he ever becomes the necromancer-emperor and has an undead police force, don't kill him?

The deviant monster class, is based on the ones that got away.

Deadeye Yain garuda lost an eye.
Bloodbath Diabolos lost 1 horn, and overgrew the other trying to regrow the lost one. and now has hormone imbalances.
Soulseer Mitzsune has adapted to being blind.
Bolt reaver Astolos has learned to use magnetism against hunters.
Elderfrost Gammoth is just old as dirt.
Dreadking mostly changes tactics, dreadqueen has a tail infection, both have altered coloration(possibly from regrowing scales after breaks.

Most the deviants are implied to have been adapted after a failed hunt, or to have lived a long time presumably inspite of being hunted. MH:Gen is the clean up/specialist hunters fixing all the problems you created in the previous games.

Lets not even compare the monsterhunter guild to Attack on titan's king. Or the undertones about fatalis armor turning hunters into fatalis.

/shrug it's body is producing horn growth steroids to even out the horns, but that juts makes the problem more pronounced, and in turn makes it more agressive and gives it regular rage as normal, and roid rage as a enraged state. Comes with excessive body heat generation, pain tolerance, and as far as I guess one of the top 5 loudest roars in that game, coming in just behind Fatalis and Lao shan-lung, which is impressive by body size comparison. It foils even High grade earplugs and at a considerable distance. Name one other monster that will roar then kill you before the roar ends as regularly intended behavior, it's a very short list I imagine.

It's the only thing i can think of to explain how loosing a horn turns a regular territorial diablos bull into a steaming murderous bloodbath specimen it literally starts bleeding blood at boiling/vaporizing temperatures once it's release from internal pressure, and the steam goes full colosal titan explosion on you periodically.

Steroids are drugs, Drugs are bad, Hormones are sometimes natural drugs.

It's a Diabolos on growth steroids because it's got lopsided horns due to greed hunters looking for majestic horns, or unprepared hunters. Probably the former because it takes a bit of effort to break a horn.

Apologies to everyone for my absence. Apparently I went on vacation and no one told me! And I don't even know where I went. Of course, there's the usual blather about RL problems, but, still... It mostly wound up being... I'm too tired; I'll get to it tomorrow, but then tomorrow never comes...

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

Some of you may have heard this before...

I started this board when I first joined RPoL because, at that time, there were far more players that wanted to play Pathfinder than there were games going on. This board was meant as a holding pattern for those players until they found a game. Not sure how many Pathfinder games are still going on or how many players still want to play Pathfinder, but I've noticed a lot more other games and game systems going on now. I've even tried running a few of them.

So, two years ago, I was running about 20 games on RPoL, plus a few of those games had multiple groups, this board being the primary one, with 3-4 adventures going at any one time. I think most of those games went pretty well.

Then, just about 2 years ago, I went to the emergency room one Sunday night at the end of January and wound up have gall bladder surgery two days later. After a week in the hospital recovering, I finally got discharged the following Sunday just in time to catch the Superbowl that year.

Apparently, I've been recovering ever since. In the last month or two (maybe more; who's counting), I've been having trouble sleeping. Didn't seem to matter when I went to bed or how tired I was, I either couldn't get to sleep or woke up after only a few hours and then couldn't get back to sleep. What that meant was that I tended to be tired all day long.

By noon, I'd have some energy and could do some posting. But, if there were chores to be done or errands to be run or projects to be worked on (still trying to fix the backyard fence after Hurricane Irma took out several sections, for instance), then that wiped out most of my posting opportunities. By evening, I was too tired to post.

Oddly and perhaps sadly, when I'm tired, my creativity is what suffers. Simply posts I can managed, but if answering someone else's post requires creativity on my part, there's just no mental energy there to do that. And that's what's happened in most of these games. It's like I paint myself into a corner--character's open the door to a room... and I have no clue what's in the room. Even coming up with 'a table and a chair' is... inadequate, at least, but sometime just impossible.

So, anyway... what does this all mean? Well, it may mean that I've finally turned a corner. It seems as if I'm starting to be creative again.

A new player wants to join. And that being said, I got it into my head that maybe, rather than try to shoehorn him into one of the stalled adventures still going on(?), I could/should just start a new one.

That, in turn, led to me thinking that it might be a good opportunity to open it to any players that have still hung around in the other games or that check the board when a post goes up.

The new adventure will be (ta-da!):

The Adventure of the Crimson Tower

I should be able to get it set up later today. If any one is still around and would like to have me wrap up their current adventure, just say so, and I'll give it a try. This does not apply to Down the Rabbit Hole--I think we're still going on that one.

I just read the full outline of The Crimson Tower.

I like ok who the poor soul that going to find out he or she is The Eternal Champion and the other soul that find out he or she the companion.

The it came to me.  In The Crimson Tower (know as Vanishing Tower) more than one Eternal Champion can be in the same place at once.  Even worse they can link up.

So we all doomed.

If this means nothing to you then you missed out on whole history of 1970 to now fantacy books you really should read.

Although I'm partially familiar Elric, I don't believe I've ever read any of Moorcock's books.

That's not to say that the Crimson Tower wasn't partially inspired by the Vanishing Tower; no doubt similar concepts have appeared in other fantasy/scifi stories.

Hi guys, I posted this from my phone but looks like it didn't send.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

So, had wifi problems when Windows did it's latest updates last month. Was able to borrow a computer, and then Windows did an update on it and lost wifi again!

Went on line with yet a third computer to check for a solution, found a youtube video with three solutions. The first one didn't work on mine, but the second one did. Neither, however, worked on the borrowed computer.

Then, last week, my computer developed a new problem. The screen started glitching... flashing horizontal lines that prevented me from seeing what I was typing or hitting post buttons. If I shut down the computer for a few hours, it kind of 'resets'.

So, went back to the borrowed computer and had it reset Windows, kicked it a couple of times, skimmed it across the pool, and then shot it for good measure. Windows redid all its updates, apparently including the fixes to the problems from before, so now I've got wifi again.

Will get caught up tomorrow.

Nearly back in business. After consulting with the local computer repair store, the options were get a replacement screen for the newer laptop computer for $150-200, buy an external monitor + adapter for $75, replace the keyboard on the older laptop for $100, or buy an external keyboard for $25. The first option is almost the cost of a new computer. The only option I can afford at this time is the last one. So, now I've got a new keyboard. It's still a pain, as I need to use the touchpad on the laptop, and it'll take getting used to where the keys are on this one.

I'll probably order a new computer online via a credit program, in which case I'll be paying for it for the rest of my life. At least they're deferring payments until August.

When I typed up the previous post, I had no idea I was going to be able to solve the problem this quickly. I'll still need to pull the digital hard drive out of the old computer and add it to my stack of external hard drives. Must be a box or something I can put them all in.

So, Greb, you're playing Greb in Skull and Shackles, too? It looks like there are only two players left. Unfortunately, since it's a mature game, none of the threads are visible to read to see if it's something I'd be interested in.

I started Argeaux Darkmorn in a Skull & Shackles game, but I don't care for the way the GM was running, so dropped out. That was probably 3 (6.5) years ago now.

What type of character/skills/powers are needed? How would my character get on board?

He's a Corsair (Rogue 2/Scout 2).

Been sick for the past week. Nothing serious, just a seasonal cold where my whole body aches, I take the usual meds, and then all I feel like doing is laying around in bed all day. It's still hanging on which is why I'm posting this.

In my 20+ years of PbP gaming on various sites, it was generally accepted that posting between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day diminished considerably due to Holidaze, work schedule changes, family, shopping, putting up decorations, etc. For that reason, expectations for timely posts was kind of put on hold.

In my case, this didn't usually apply to me, but this year, I seem to have hit a down cycle. It's probably a combination of age + health + meds + diet + environment + Holidaze. So, just bear with me while I sort it all out and hopefully get back on track in the new year.

I was supposed to have a doctor's appointment Thursday, but it got cancelled, so that solution didn't happen. Just can't sleep, so my eyes hurt all day and my brain is too foggy to do much posting. Struggling to work through it.

Had a tech come back for the AC and he told us it's going to cost another $500 to fix the wiring problem that he screwed up in the first place. Needless to say, we're very irate with the AC company. Don't yet have a solution, so still no AC. Fortunately, it hasn't been very hot or humid, we're near the coast and on a corner lot, so we can get a decent breeze through the house for now.

So apparently it was my turn to get Covid, although a weaker strain. Culminated Monday night when I fell getting out of bed because I got dizzy and my legs were so weak they couldn't support me. After friends helped me get into a chair, called an ambulance to take me to the hospital for evaluation and testing. Everything else was clear but the test came back positive for Covid. Put some fluids in me, gave me a few prescriptions for me cough, and sent me home.

According to the doctor, I have had it for a few days, so Monday was the worst of it. Getting better, but I still feel like crap and a bit unsteady on my feet.

At least this explains why I've been feeling so crappy for awhile now.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

As you may have heard, Southwest Florida where I  live got clobbered by Hurricane Ian. Once again, we've lost power. With Irma, we lost it for 10 days. It could be longer this time as a couple of substations got trashed and there's almost a million people without power now across the six counties.

Currently using my friend's hot spot from his phone, but there's still the problem of charging up my computer and his cell phone.

So, not sure how much I'll be able to post before we get power back. No gas stations are operable because their pumps are electrical and they don't have power either. Most stores were closed today, but a few restaurants managed to open to feed the people that can't cook at home now.

Lots of trees down, and some damage to houses and yards. Six houses on our block lost their back porches. Our fence barely survived, but it's leaning because the ground got so soaked. Lost a few solar panels. But other than that, made it through without any damage to the house (except the back porch (the lanai) is 50% gone) and we're all intact--people, cats and dogs.

Yea! Power's back as of Friday afternoon. Internet came back late Friday night. We thought it'd take long because we're at the tail end of a line and the telephone pole and transformer at the other end of the block were both lying on the ground because the pole had snapped in half!

Spent yesterday cleaning up, picking up the pieces, putting things back in place, and making sure nothing got burnt out. We'd unplugged the TVs and shut off the AC at the circuit box, so we seem to be okay.

Our two house cats keep wanting to go out on the back porch like they used to, but it's half gone, so that's not going to be an option for awhile.

Anyway, expect to get caught up on my games today.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

So here's what's been happening...

I've been 'ill' for about three months now, starting with getting COVID back in the beginning of October. Wasn't too bad and I got over it in a few days, but it left me with the typical aftermath symptom of being tired ALL THE TIME. I was slowly getting over it, and even had a few hours of energy every day.

I had a doctor's appointment scheduled for mid-October but then Hurricane Ian hit. The VA clinic took some damage and was closed for two weeks. I finally got the appointment rescheduled for Jan. 13.

December 1st, I had a minor chest pain on my right side. It felt like just a minor muscle strain but at my age and with my medical history, I felt it was prudent to check. Called the VA clinic to see about a walk-in visit the next day and the nurse I talked to went into panic mode with the 'chest pain' words, and told me to go to the ER. So, on Friday, December 2nd, that's what I did. More panic mode.

Spent 4 days being poked and prodded, inspected, detected, and injected and stuff, only to be told my heart was fine. More exactly, they couldn't find any cause for the chest pain... the obvious cause seemed to elude them.

Here's where it started going to hell. Getting out of the hospital, I had an extreme loss of appetite, shortness of breath, and NO ENERGY. Didn't have any of that when I went in!

Not only was I not hungry, but nothing tasted appealing any more. Could barely eat my favorite foods, and then only 2-3 bites. On top of that, I ran out of one of my diabetes medicines. Not eating and drinking much, I also wasn't taking my meds as regularly as I had been.

This went on for the next three weeks, so things probably grew gradually worse without me quite realizing it.

December 31st, I managed to pull a back muscle, and while the pain meds I took didn't do squat, I at least knew it'd go away in a few days. It did. And then I got hives!

Jan. 6 I went to the VA clinic to get bloodwork done for my doctor's appointment. No sooner did I get home than the doctor called to tell me my blood sugar level was 903! I needed to go to the ER pronto! That's where I've been for the past week. :-(

I still didn't feel all that bad (weak and no energy), but I definitely had some serious health issues. Turned out I had ketoacidosis and some kidney issues. After a few days treatment, the keto was gone, kidneys were all better, and my blood sugar was back to normal. Now I had to survive the 'recovery'. As long as I was stuck in that hospital bed, though, I knew I wasn't going to get better. So now I'm home.

Have a nurse helping me, and physical therapy should start tomorrow. And now I have to play tag with a doctor's appointment again...

Anyway, the reason I'm telling you all this is in case you, family or a friend should find yourself in a similar situation, you'll have a heads-up/warning about what's might be happening.

Now it's just recovery and rehab.

Oh my goodness
Well...good to hear you're alive after all that.
Also, take your time if you need to recoup after that, as the great Buddha once said, "Shit happens."
(I may have paraphrased that a little, but you get the idea)
Anyway, yeah, my younger sibling has lupus and had a similar bout with "ugh I feel like garbage" and eventually they found blood in her urine so she had to go to the hospital and it was a mess. Fortunately mom and dad didn't tell me until I had actually graduated college, otherwise I would have been a nervous wreck about it and who knows what would have happened, but uh
So yea don't let gaming be a blocker to recovery here (though if it helps with the mental, by all means use us as a distratction :P)

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

So while I was stuck in the hospital bed for two weeks, I wrote and rewrote this post in my head several times. Don't remember any of it now, so here's the newest version.

THE NEVER-ENDING STORY...

The Missing Chapter: when I was discharged from the hospital back in January, I was sent home with a Foley catheter, which was more of an annoyance and handicap for my home rehab at the time. Managed to get an appointment with the VA  urologist two weeks later. He thought I should never have been sent home with it, but it was time to get it removed. Took a week of scheduling shuffles but finally went home without it on the following Thursday.

That Friday night when getting ready for bed, I lost my balance while setting something on the floor and fell over on my back onto the concrete floor. My housemate helped me get up and everything seemed fine once I was back out in the recliner. Nope. Come Saturday, I was in excruciating pain across all the muscles in my chest and back. Doan's, Aleve, Tylenol didn't help at all. Monday added a heating pad... better. Wednesday, switched to BenGay... better, but still couldn't sleep, so Thursday went back to the VA for some stronger pain meds.

That doctor saw the previous records and thought I might be having a pulmonary embolism and immediately did an ambulance transfer to the ER. 6 hours later the ER doctor decided that wasn't the case and sent me home with vicadin. Didn't do anything but pharmacy was closed so had to wait till the next day to get more.

After that, everything was fine for a few hours. Mid-afternoon, I suddenly couldn't move my legs!

EMT/PD shortly had me back in the ER. MRI of head and neck revealed a tumor in my C2 vertebra. Had spinal surgery next morning! Being the weekend, it took 4 days to get the pathology back which identified it as prostate cancer. Caught it early and getting chemo, and now in rehab to walk again.

Other than that, I'm in great health (for my age)! Probably 4-6 weeks in rehab before I go home.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

The really stupid part about this is that it's just a big physical shortcoming--I'm otherwise fine mentally with low energy levels.

Apologies for no update but really didn't think there was one.

Still paraplegic trying to recover mobility at a poor rehab facility with bad nursing and half-horrible food until...

Developed a sore on my butt from laying in bed 24/7 that didn't get treated properly and turned gangrene, so now I'm back in the hospital with surgery scheduled for Tuesday.

Recovery to go home was still about a month away. Don't yet know how this new problem will affect that.

Low energy levels at rehab have left me with a one-track mind--just have trouble shifting gears between game systems right now.

My OCD stubbornness is still keeping me from pulling the plug on my games. I really have fun running games and it really bums me out that I can't keep them going right now for all of you. For those of you who are still sticking around waiting for the game to restart, I sincerely apologize for the delay. For those of you who have moved on, no hard feelings here--I completely understand.

Anyway, Happy Easter to everyone!

Rest. Recover. Flirt with cute nurses. Shake off the negative energy. Last time ai was in that kind of facility, the killed my pain with Norco. Turns out I had a reaction to the drug, it sent me spiraling into deep depression.

OCD stubbornness is a good trait.

Thanks, Krass!  I needed that!

Without actually knowing an end is in sight, nasty little Depression keeps trying to sneak in. And sometimes I'm too tired to kick it out.

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

Can't sleep, can't focus to post... turn. More of the same. Turn. Repeat.

STAGE MINUS ONE--SPINAL SURGERY: Hell, I don't even remember half of it. This would have been the spinal surgery to remove the tumor and put me on my back for two weeks. DONE. SUCCESS!

STAGE ZERO--REHAB ERROR: Weeks at rehab facility where inadequate and improper nursing care turned an ordinary bedsore into a far more serious gangrene wound... one that now needed surgery to fix. DONE? WAS THAT A SUCCESS OR FAILURE?

STAGE ONE--BACKSIDE SURGERY: Operation on my tailbone went off without a hitch apparently. Just left with a major wound on my tailbone. Couldn't/can't put pressure on the wound while it heals, thus laying on my side and having to get turned to the other side every two hours, necessitating having to learn to type on my laptop upside down and sideways with one finger. Remember, this is at the BETTER recovery/rehab facility rather than at home, so options are still limited. Did I mention the I-V dangling from my arm that also gets in the way? DONE. SUCCESS.

STAGE TWO--STAPLES/SUTURES REMOVAL: Staples and stitches still need to come out. Don't have a timeline for that yet but presumably soon.
___STAGE 2.1: First half of the staples were taken out Tuesday. On schedule, standard routine. DONE. SUCCESS.
___STAGE 2.2: Second half of staples were removed Friday. Again, right on schedule with no complications. DONE. SUCCESS.
___STAGE 2.3: Sutures are currently supposed to come out on Monday, though that probably depends on how the final healing has progressed, since not everyone will heal the same way. PENDING.

STAGE THREE--WOUND REHAB: sitting protocols start as soon as sutures come out (?). Start getting used to sitting up  again... in 15-minute intervals. No details yet on frequency or duration. Will kind of depend on how well I do, but further complicated by not  having any control of my leg muscles. Requires moving to a normal bed rather than this deluxe air bubbling mattress that's meant to stimulate skin/muscle do I don't get more bedsores.

STAGE FOUR--HOME REHAB: As soon as I can stand up on my own two legs, I should be able to go home for final rehab. Regain mobility. At this point, there's no telling how well the wound rehab and the paralysis rehab will work together. The therapist seemed to think they could make them work together in synergy, but I didn't get a whole lot of enthusiasm from him. I suppose it could be uncharted territory for him.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: I now qualify for Frequent Surgery Miles. I've had four surgeries so the fifth one is free! Oddly, I started with the Big One (double bypass heart surgery 15 years ago) and that went easier than these.

Still not sure if there's a light at  the end of the tunnel yet--if there is, hope it's the Battery Low indicator and not the Westbound #9 train!

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

Take the time you need Starmaster. RPOL isn't going anywhere.

Also I will be unavailable most likely from the 12th until possibly the 18th or even 20th as I'm flying out of the country at the end of the week for my first vacation in about 7 years.

Thanks!

And look at it this way you get to rest most of the day, have other people (hopefully hot nurses) feed you and serve you, and you get to play RPOL now and then. See...silver lining. ^_-

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

___STAGE 2.3: Sutures came out on Monday right on schedule, but the final healing is still in progress for several weeks/months. DONE. SUCCESS.

STAGE THREE--WOUND REHAB: sitting up for continued wound rehab protocols start as soon as sutures came out, about a week ago now. Start getting used to sitting up  again... in 15-minute intervals twice a day. Moved to a standard air mattress bed. Frequency and duration will kind of depend on how well I do, but further complicated by not having any control over my leg muscles and not enough feeling below the waist. Communication/responsibility issue has only produced one session--should have been six by now! PENDING???

___STAGE 3.5--RESUME PREVIOUS REHAB: In a week or two or three depending on how quickly I improve here, I get transferred to yet another Rehab facility for continued wound recovery... takes a long time... as well as mobility rehab.

___Stage 3.7--TRANSFER TO NEW REHAB: So the Wound Recovery has done well enough that I'm getting transferred to a different rehab facility for the Sitting/Mobility rehab. Don't know why there's a difference other than where I'm at is more medical than therapeutic so they need to make room for a new patient.

THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL: Different tunnel, different light. I suppose it's a step in the right direction, but we'll have to see how it goes.

In reply to GM StarMaster (msg # 481):

Sitting/mobi is the last inpatient step IIRC, so that's a very good sign.

Wish you all the luck (and skill, I guess? "Gambatte" is the Japanese word, but it doesn't translate very well literally) as always

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

Hey all - and especially but not limited to Grey - I just learned from another player in another Starmaster game that Starmaster died last night! I thought it was only right that you all know. I am sending prayers to Heaven for Starmaster, his family, and all the players he's positively impacted over years of time in multiple RPOL games!

Re: New OOC Discussion Thread

a RL fired of Starmasters who also is in another Game with me on RPOL has posted something along these lines, so I figure its useful to let you know.

The site admins are aware Starmaster has died, and the info appears to be that eventually these games will be deleted. No one can take over the other game, and I assume it might be the same for this one.

We could try and find a GM to move it to a new set up? Or we could just let it go?

Amyone any thoughts?

I was enjoying the fairy game as well, though I'm not sure if the others have moved on or the like by this point.

I don't know if the game you guys were involved in was at a similar level or not, though.
