Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Sorry about the lull. Been busting my ass last couple weeks at work to get everything squared away for a fifteen day vacation with four kids. Spent the last 3.5 days on the road seeing Grand Canyon and all the roadside tourist stops my family could handle. In LA now but after Christmas on the way home we will be stopping in Vegas so I'm gonna relive the route of the game and head over to Nellis just to get a good mental image. Anyway we will be on a cruise and down in Mexico so my posting may be lacking till January 2nd. Everybody have a Happy Holiday!

In reply to Robert E. Lee Jessup (msg # 4):

Ha ha, best of luck! Take some good pictures of Nellis for us! Even better, have a look at Hoover Dam. I was there as a kid some 35-40 years ago, all I really remember is now merged with "Fallout: New Vegas".

It's always fun to have a look at in-game locations in real life. I am running a Twilight 2000 game on RPOL that is set in my city (Vancouver). One of the players also lives here and over the years we have made several field trips to different in-game locations that are important or interesting. (Always fun to walk down an alley in Chinatown, pointing out where you'd put the Claymores to take out the HAs...)

Added: can Laney tell what's in the Hesco barricades?

It is clear to me Robert that you take Roleplaying to a whole new level.  Disguising your scouting mission as a vacation how very shrewd ;P, no doubt the children are all part of an elaborate ruse to throw off the authorities.  Have fun on your "Vacation" :D

I bet your kids are stoked to go on a cruise ship, I know a guy who goes every year(realator) and the size of those things when he explains it man it would be cool to see.

Oh, you're playing/running a T2K game?  I've been wanting to get back into one or start one myself.  I only have 1st edition in PDF, but it was the original and I still enjoy it despite it's current inaccuracies for a military career path.  There was a game some Polish guy was running that was fun, but died off...I was wanting to do something like the movie Fury -- a lone MBT or IFV trying to fulfill a last desperate type mission in the post-apocalyptic war setting (with a little anime styling).  Just making time to play in several games and run a SW game for some friends all on RPOL is challenging enough right now.

Sorry DST...(to be talking about another game...)

Not worried about people talking about other games in OOC.

Not to brag but I could say I'm starting "Such and such game" and post a link. Within 24 hours I'd have a majority of people who play in my games join.

BTW I am waiting for more people to post before I make a GM post.

I think Joint's right, there's no easy way to move the barricade. Even then there's the gate. Not too many people seem eager to rat-fuck the vehicles for some reason but I guess I can see why.

Oh yeah, I don't think DST has need to be concerned about competition from other games in any real sense. I would consider his games the gold standard! Out of courtesy I would probably ask before making a mass recruitment post, although since you seem interested please follow the link:

link to another game

I think I had the Pole in my game. He left to start his own as (among other things) I don't think he was happy about his PC being under the command of a female PC. (Women have been allowed to serve as combat soldiers in the Canadian Forces since 1989.)

The setting is 2.0 (an alternative timeline where the coup against Gorbachev succeeded) and we are trying to be relatively technically accurate but accounting for some alternative procurement unique to the T2K timeline. We are using the T2013 rules set. As the location is the Lower Mainland of British Columbia (adjacent to what Americans call the Pacific Northwest) the main theme of the campaign is restoring civil order and rebuilding the province under the newly established civilian government. The composite team is RCMP-led, backed by CF "civilian contractors" (ex-US and Soviet soldiers) and US Federal Government loyalists. While currently operating in uncontrolled territory (contested by biker gangs and deserters) the team is not really out of command or isolated.

Speaking of Fury, we already had a tank duel between a T-54 and a AVGP Cougar. The Cougar is a strange wheeled "training tank" (imagine a smaller LAV-25 that is 6x6, mounting a Scorpion turret armed with a 76mm gun). The Coug' got in a couple hits with 76mm HESH which damaged the T-54 but the kill shot was in the flank from the Carl Gustav team. Right now the team is driving the Cougar, a Humvee, an Iltis "jeep" and soon to be joined by a SAM-8 Gecko TEL.

If interested, pre-gens are available. I can help with a new PC if necessary.

Good system for PC combat, the vehicle rules need work as the conversion from the older versions was botched.

To clarify for Luke's post, is he searching where the MaxxPro (Jesus, that sounds like the name of an energy drink!) of the cargo truck? They are 200m apart, there may not even be vehicles to search over there. I would guess he means he's searching where the group is currently located.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

I know I mentioned it before, but here it is again...

I'm trying to fill a few open slots in my Robotech game:
link to another game

Specifically I'm looking for two 1st level Destroid pilots to fly/drive this, the MBR-10A1 Valiant:
The MBR-10 Valiant was designed to give the UEEF the heavy hitting firepower and armor of the original Destroid designs but in a mecha that was more suited for a variety of environments that could be anticipated when operating on extraterrestrial worlds. The Valiant is capable of sustained flight on a planet with gravity similar to that of Earth and operating in space like space fighter. The mecha can survive an atmospheric reentry by slowing it’s decent with the massive engines built into its legs and be fully combat capable upon landing. The most innovative aspect of the Valiant is the replaceable arms which can be switched for a variety of weapon systems and utility devices. In an effort on the part of the UEEF to make maintenance and replacement of parts easier, the sensor head, hands and leg mounted missile launchers are identical between the MBR-10 Valiant and the first generation of Alpha veritech’s.

The first MBR-10 Valiant platoons were first fielded in 2015. They saw action against Zentraedi Malcontents on both Earth and in Space. Two variants was developed, one was the basic –A1 model and has the same sensor head unit found on the VFA-6A Alpha veritech. The second variant was a command variant and has the same sensor head unit as found on the VFA-6B Alpha veritech.

One thing I'd like to bring up is that, as a straight man playing a woman, it is something of a long-standing cliche in roleplaying to have my character a lesbian. (I guess dudes find the prospect of their PC swapping spit with another dude, even in the abstract, icky.) I remember fellow gamers (fellow men gamers, that is) actually doing this; after all, in the past it was a common joke for guys in general to claim they were "lesbians inside". (Because I guess we didn't really know much about actual lesbians, I guess?)

The funny thing about Joint's joking about Laney being gay is that, of course, Laney is obviously straight to anyone with half a brain. If any male PC wants to get involved with her, or even just knock boots, I'd be open to this. To be clear I am not actively soliciting anything, by any means! But she's a normal woman and it's not out of the question, any more than if I were playing a straight man who's open to something starting with a straight woman.

Tony

Just remember that any sexual situations in my games are handled as a 'fade to black.' So yes two character might talk and maybe show some public display of affection, but any thing beyond that isn't really needed to progress the story other then:
quote:
Scott Hasegawa and Susie Seidel fucked each other brains out the night before the operation to capture the Robotech Factory because the two both figured it might be their last night in the universe.

The above quote tells you all you need to know. There was no graphic detail of the 'lovemaking' it was pretty much stated that the two character did the nasty and are a couple.

Anyhow.....so if two players think their characters might be a couple (straight, gay, lesbian) some discussion in PM's are probably the best thing to do, to see if the other player is OK with the romantic advances.

A zombie survival-horror game I am co-GMing is looking for new players. It's fairly long-lasting as far as these games go, running since 2013.

The Last Flight - a thinking person’s Zombie Game.

Pockets of humanity have survived the zombie apocalypse - so far. Your group has set up home on a Napoleonic sea fort in the English Channel, but it seems the Infection has been released by a mysterious group of paramilitary fanatics.

You need to discover more, and maybe find a serum. Can you take and hold beach heads of English soil from the armoured squadrons of paramilitaries and their zombie hordes?

If so, the engineers and farmers among you can feed your community. If not, your community will feed the zombies and their fanatical masters...

We need soldiers, engineers, farmers, medics, pathologists, investigators. We need ordinary people, for an extraordinary job! We need re-builders of civilization - we need YOU.

HRH Queen Elizabeth II, via the BBC World Service:

When I spoke to you just over three months ago we were all enjoying the warmth and fellowship of a family Christmas. Our thoughts were concentrated on the strong links that bind each generation to the ones that came before and those that will follow. The horrors of this new kind of war could not have seemed more remote as my family and I shared our Christmas joy with the family of the Commonwealth.

Now this madness is spreading through the world and our brave country must again prepare itself to survive against great odds. I have never forgotten the sorrow and the pride I felt as my sister and I huddled around the nursery wireless set listening to my father's inspiring words on that fateful day in 1939. Not for a single moment did I imagine that this solemn and awful duty would one day fall to me.

We all know that the dangers facing us today are greater by far than at any time in our long history. The enemy is not the soldier with his rifle nor even the airman prowling the skies above our cities and towns nor the nuclear missiles waiting in their silos and submarines, but the deadly power of abused technology in the form of biological terrorism.

But whatever horrors lie in wait for us all the qualities that have helped to keep our freedom intact twice already during the last century will once more be our strength.

My husband and I share with families up and down the land the fear we feel for sons and daughters, husbands, wives, sisters and brothers who have left our side to serve their country. My beloved son Andrew and my grandsons William and Harry are at this moment in action with their units and we pray continually for their safety and for the safety of all servicemen and women at home and overseas. It is this close bond of family life that must be our greatest defence against the unknown. If families remain united and resolute, giving shelter to those living alone and unprotected, our country's will to survive cannot be broken.

My message to you therefore is simple. Help those who cannot help themselves. Give comfort to the lonely and the homeless and let your family become the focus of hope and life to those who need it. As we strive together to fight this unimaginable new evil let us pray for our country and all men and women of goodwill wherever they may be.

God bless you all.

When we started out the APC was just about full up with gear, supplies and crew.

2 people have gone over to the 8-ton so we have at least 2 open spaces.

Further, if we offload all the gear and supplies we can, plus all but a couple volunteers, we can probably cram at least 10 or more, but it won't be comfortable.

The 8-ton can probably take a lot more. But they won't be safe unless the horde is decoyed off somehow.

Most military vehicles can carry way more troops then officially listed. I once had 26 grunts in the back of my AAV, plus the troop commander, my driver, and my sections mechanic acting as the rear crewman. That's 30 Marines total, in a vehicle that officially carries 24.

Anyhow the best bet is to have any extra people you guys pick up ride in the 8 ton.

IIRC I did state that the cell network was down, but you guys still had access to other features such as the google maps.  So no phone calls or texts. EDIT: now that I've seen the IC posting you wouldn't be able to transmit photos. But you could plug the phone in.  Also you guys will have about 24-72 hours of power on your cell phones. MRAPs probably don't hav USB ports and the cargo truck sure as heck doesn't.

This does question if further down the road somebody could jail brea phones and using the left over cell towers create their own cellular network.

In the mean time......

If your going with Jonathan to check out that other range post there.

Also Annabelle has One Motorola radio.  I need to know who has the other. These two characters will have a radio thread to communicate with.

In reply to Darkside Trooper (msg # 44):

My understanding is there are 2 Motorola Talkabout hand radios (35 miles range). These are commercially-available civilian units but can also communicate with police (LV Metro, Clark County Sheriff's Dept.) and EMS bands. Annabelle has one, Arani has the other.

There are also each a military set in both trucks (5-ton and MaxPro) but they cannot communicate with the Motorolas and vice versa due to digital encryption and frequency-hopping.

Please accept my apologies if this is incorrect!

The military radios are not working (you will need a military trained comm guy to get them working).  Your best bet is to find some working CB radios.....

I would have said something if I thought your first post was wrong.

It would be nice if people would post tho, as it bogs down the game. Don't forget that wherever your character is there are two other groups of characters also waiting for you to post.

Does anybody know what long guns (rifles, SMGs, shotguns) the LVMPD uses? Or do you just mind if I just make up what long guns they use?

From pics it looks like they use an AR-15 type rifle, the HK UMP, and I think the Bennili shotgun

Just a little research I did, but again they can be armed with SigSauer 1911 45apc for all I care.

Shotguns I saw in photo's were Remington 870's, Benelli's are great but outside I think normal police budgets.  I was looking at picking up my first shot gun and a Benelli will run past the $2000 mark.

Their rifles through all the pics I looked at are definitely AR platform. looks like they are aloud to customize to there preference also.

One quote I found on for on duty officers

"I noticed one officer was carrying a Springfield XD, while the other one was carrying a Glock. The next morning I stopped and asked one of the officers who was standing by the sidewalk about his weapon, which I could tell was a Glock. He carried a Glock 17 and told me the department authorized Glock, S&W M&P, Springfield XD, and I think SIG was the 4th choice. The officer could also choose between 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP."

Wikipedia:
Firearms training takes place at the LVMPD John T Moran Tactical Firearms Training Facility located near Nellis Air Force Base, and named for the department's second sheriff. The facility is used by numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. At the facility, recruits receive several weeks of firearms training during the academy. Commissioned police officers must attend firearms re-qualification four times a year. This re-qualification is for all firearms. The qualifications include known-distance targets and tactical courses of fire in both regular and low-light.

Officers can choose their sidearm off a list of weapons including Glock, Heckler & Koch, Sig Sauer, Smith and Wesson, and other manufacturers. The preferred calibers are 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 caliber. [15]

Man, those guys keep their longarms close to their chest! Figuratively and probably literally. While it's easy to find their guidelines on makes and calibres of sidearms (pretty wide) I can't find word one on their shotguns, SMGs and rifles/carbines.

I even went through their regulations concerning authorised firearms and equipment and there is nothing really specific there, other than mention of qualifying with a MACTAC sniper rifle. One thing I did find in a newsletter is that LV Metro probably does use Benelli M-series shotguns:

"On Jan 17-18 John Nagazyna from Las Vegas Metro PD hosted preSHOT
Show armorer courses for the Benelli M-Series and Springfield
Armory XD/XDm."

Is anyone opposed to using the PS stat to determine the dice rolls liked in H2H combat?

Basicly instead of a flat bonus for those characters with a PS of 16 or higher you'd roll a different about of dice.  This isn't meat to limit the PCs but to limit bad guys who have a high PS from killiing a character with a single hit. That and if two PCs get in a fist fight.

So I have a curious question...Laney and Joint have their little spat...How the hell can they even hear one another.  Case and point is I was operating a Zoomboom(big fork lift with extending arm) and when I was shouting out to my helper he couldn't even hear me and we were only 30 ft apart.  I generally shut the engine off when we need to talk about our course of action on a pick we are gonna do.  Now you throw in two big diesel engines and a theoretical zombie mob I honestly don't think unless we were using two ways the whole time we could communicate without loosing our voices.

Just kinda hit me today as we were just using hand signals to move material around and in place.

15 hours sounds pretty brutal, especially if you're working with heavy equipment in the sun. You are definitely my hero, big boy!

I figure the engines would be idling? They can't be too loud or else the drivers would need ear protection! Not quiet but possible to yell over top. And we could be parked side-by-side, not 30 feet away. Or we could shut one of both of them down, then restart when we need to go (after the length of the post for Joint the mob has almost certainly caught up by now).

But yeah, after about a line or so I was thinking Laney would suggest they start driving and finish the discussion elsewhere.

Depends on where the people driving the vehicles decide to go....

For now I just want a post from everyone stating which vehicle they want to be in/on.

My apologies, I was just thinking about this. There should be enough time to rig something simple once we get turned around? Five, maybe ten minutes until the mob of crazies arrives at the other, smaller range?

The mob is about 500m from the smaller range and our turn-around point. The average human walking speed is .5 km/h, but let's say they are motivated and worked up, going triple walking speed: 1.5 km.h. This will take them twenty (20) minutes to walk along the road to our RV/turn-around point.

To clarify: the plan is to get turned around at the other range.

We are not leaving to do our rescue thing this minute. This should not be what's currently happening in game, and please accept my apologies if that wasn't clear. Please advise if I am missing something.

Map has been updated. I didn't touch the vehicle or personnel markers, only the current route:

I think I have mentioned this before.....Laney isn't driving a vehicle anymore, so the vehicles will go where the drivers want them to go....

As for strapping yourselves in.....there isn't much you guys have on you to strap yourselves in with.

Also since this the Out OF Character thread none of the stuff here can be used in character unless it's discussed in character (yes this is the GM being an asshole because he doesn't like meta gaming).

2) This intention has been communicated IC a couple times, I don't think I can do more on that front. That said I don't think I have nor would I intentionally try to direct or suggest actions here in OOC Instead of IC. I have many faults but making detailed IC posts are not one of them!

With all due respect, I don't think any shit is being decided by committee. We're all basically on the same page.

Laney's counter-suggestion was to use the side road, which we can see from Carey Ave. In your GM opinion is that a viable way to get around the mob? Jonathan would have had a good view of it up on the water tower so we can ask in-game, or Laney can climb up there herself.

As well regarding my IC question, any word on how fast the mob and individual crazies are moving?

Thanks!

Oh, and TAB, don't make me bring up my Engineer in a sci-fi Call of Cthulhu game. She was a nice girl, got good rolls too so she was good at what she did, but OMG, her ability to be in the wrong place at the wrong time was stellar.

On a spaceship with multiple areas where it took half an hour to go from one end to the other, she was physically present during all PC deaths and major injuries all the way up to Chapter Two. Either they died with her in the room, or she was the last person to talk to them. And every time she came out of it unscathed too.

And then she (GM) rolled really well on a tome of eldrich lore and learned how to summon an Elder God.

So yeah, chance and the Dice had decreed her the Harbinger of Death, more or less.

Ha ha ha!

Yeah, but how long does it take for them to traverse this? One 15-second turn?

(I am reminded of how in Star Wars the Millennium Falcon could make the Kessel Run in less than 12 Parsecs. But as a Parsec is a unit of distance, without knowing the time it took to travel there is no way to determine the speed.)

As well, when we were at the base of the water tower, we would have had a view of the area to the immediate north. Are either of the proposed routes viable? (See map.)

https://www.google.com/maps/d/...09253483429&z=18

If you say no, that makes things simpler. But I like the idea of going around instead of through.

Right, that's all I am asking, relative to (say) a human. I am glad we're on the same page!

We can all do this, right? At least I can do this, in real life, and I do not have any special training, nor am I especially observant. But I can tell the difference between someone who's walking slow, walking fast, or running, and figure out how long it will take to get to me.

Ha ha ha ha!

Should my character attempt to eyeball a target at BVR, I shall keep that in mind! But we're not talking about judging the speed of an aircraft at 30,000 feet or a ship on or over the horizon.

There may be some confusion here. While I am asking about the speed of the zombies I'll be happy with just a relative speed. Human walking speed, slower, faster, etc.

If this get me kicked I get it...Laney you already know how fast they are relative to all the information given to us and how fast they travel.

From the time this game started, one of the threads you were driving if I am not mistaken and they were able to keep pace with a vehicle(So fast one.)  Since you drove to rescue those people and then drove away from the building to our current position and we have been in discussion.  They have covered that distance minus I think now last report they are within 70 yards.  We have google maps, we can now estimate that time, but it is irrelevant.

So no I am not on "the same page" as you!, because from are game play we are easily able to determine they are as slow, or as fast or way faster then us as humans.
So we can safely assume in character and out of character that a zombies speed is relative to the speed the GAME MASTER wants the game to flow from scene to scene.

Here's the simple answer.  The GM is OCD when it comes to numbers because he's a fucking accountant. The GM would rather just say in one post the Zombie's are 100 yards away then in another say they are 10 yards closer (which is what I've done) instead of doing a fuckload of math that my OCD says has to be correct 100%.

I've only technically kicked two players from my games.

One refused to play/interact with another player's character.

The other was such a dumbass in his games I left.  Asshole decided to ban me from his game so I 86'd his punk as from my games.  Had the audacity to ask me to unban him once (probably so he could steal my shit).

"Laney"? Ha ha! I'll tell her you said that! And no, it probably won't get you kicked

Sure, if you maybe want to say I'm not as swift as you are because you carefully teased out some information I've not been able to, that's fair. Other than that, I'm not asking because I'm trying to annoy the GM after a hard day at the office, I'm asking because I'm obviously somehow being dense. (I do make up for any lack of intelligence with movie-star good looks. Personal hygiene is only so-so, I'm afraid.)

That said, I really don't think you are correct. The zombies we've seen haven't been able to easily keep up with a moving vehicle (as we easily outpaced them when we were rolling and not stopped).

Copy that, I got the distance (100m, then they are 10m closer) and thanks for that,  but I didn't get the time it took them to cover that distance. Even without a watch a normal person could tell if someone is moving at a walking speed, running, etc. (or some are running, some are walking) As a GM I would totally give at least basic situational information like that without a second thought. But then I'm probably a shitty GM.

If that's the best answer I'm going to get (roughly a human walking speed) then groovy! On with the show!

"Laney"? Ha ha! I'll tell her you said that! And no, it probably won't get you kicked.  Really up to the GM is it not, ...since this might be considered drama or flaming.

Sorry, TONY...seriously holy shit

You sir/madam are passive aggressive hiding it under mock humor,...nothing was gleaned and I did not say I was smarter by "teasing out information" or even implied it.  I simply stated what I have read over the course of this game over the last few months as I have been playing along side you and the others reading their posts.

And a zombie running after a ford f-150 is called keeping pace even if you are gaining distance from it.  A zombie chasing someone on a peddle bike and keeping pace is fast zombie.  A zombie mob covering the distance from the range to our present location, yeah they are going at a pretty good clip.  But in the end "I really don't think you are correct either, so lets agree to disagree.

You clearly want something like zombie x has traveled 2.5 meters every 10 secs...blah blah blah....which is f'ing retarded in a alternate reality fictional game.  It is to the point it seems like you are going to be asking the specific stats for each zombie in the horde.

And then when you don't get this information you go all "ON WITH THE SHOW!!!!!!" and lets play on. I didn't mean to cause drama..blah blah blah.  The way you go about things is to get what you want and it is childish.  All I asked is if there were harnessing points in the truck, GM said no and we most likely didn't have time....then you go a freaking well this distance plus blah blah blah...who gives a shit GM said no, play on.

So am I pissed and stepping out side of my role, shit yeah I am, do I think this wise posting this no I don't, but I am tired of every time there is a question on a fictional game, you going all reality check on us and the GM.  I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that seeing as he is ex military he does not need some civilian to fight a keyboard battle for him.  But seriously piss off with being so self righteous with comments like "That said, I really don't think you are correct."  Whoever you are, you play your characters fantastic, but in OCC you are a total "a hole" I look forward to reading your response since it seems you need to have the last comment.

Again if this get me removed I understand and I genuinely hope you have a great game and this is a fantastic game with great characters.

I wish I had a like button for players posts.

Ok so the above OOC posts are exact why I have an OOC thread.

To me OOC is a place to ask simple questions or air out dirty laundry.

While I do see two players disagreeing and a little bit of attacking what I've seen thus far isn't too far.

...Actually, it being a unit of distance is the whole point.

The Millenium Falcon isn't built for speed, it's not an 'engine with wings' like a racer.

The whole point of that Kessel Run was to find the most efficient way to get from A to B, in this case doing it in under 12 Parsecs. Thus, more efficient hyperspace lanes are found leading to more efficient fuel-to-profit ratios.

Speed was never a factor, as most of the time it's going to be populated by large freighters anyway.

Don't forget that how Han did make the Kessel run in 12 parsecs was by traveling  close/through 'The Maw', a group of black holes.

Agreed, I like the "through the Maw" explanation and found it elegant when I heard it proposed decades ago, long after I first saw Star Wars in the theatre. (And drive-in. And saw it a lot of times in 1977 and a year later when it was re-released in theatres in 1978, something they did in those days.) As an explanation, though, this is a relatively recent one. At the time, believe me, it seemed either very silly or a mistake in terminology; one more reason Star Wars was ridiculed by the SF community at the time!

Not just a rhetorical question, eh? Yes, yes it would suck!

Figuring out the HMFIC is something that should happen IC, if it's not de facto academic. We could always form an anarcho-syndicalist commune:

Arthur: Please, *please*, good people, I am in haste!  WHO lives in that
castle?
Woman: No one lives there.
Arthur: Then who is your lord?
Woman: We don't have a lord!
Arthur: (surprised) What??
Man: I *told* you!  We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune!  We're taking
turns to act as a sort of executive-officer-for-the-week--
Arthur: (uninterested) Yes...
Man: But all the decisions *of* that officer 'ave to be ratified at a
special bi-weekly meeting--
Arthur: (perturbed) Yes I see!
Man: By a simple majority, in the case of purely internal affairs--
Arthur: (mad) Be quiet!
Man: But by a two-thirds majority, in the case of more major--
Arthur: (very angry) BE QUIET! I *order* you to be quiet!

I apparently didn't write a understandable sentence.....

It should be a good reading of the role play to see how the situation is resolved, it might even result in a group split or somebody (or several sombodies) getting wasted.

As an aside, I don't have an issue with PvP combat to the death as long as its IC. You can't just blow a characters head off because the player was a dickhead to you in OOC or pissed you off in some other game.

It does suck, and thanks for the reminder to change passwords. The laptop was password-protected but I never even thought of that until now. There were no other devices, but I lost most of my dice and a couple CAll of Cthulhu books. (Not my set of favourite dice, thankfully!) Fortunately they didn't trash the car, or be thorough and steal a number of more personally valued items that were left vulnerable because I'd started pre-packing the car prior to the trip.

It's strange to say but the thieves around here don't always seem to be that motivated or malicious. A few years ago my folks' car got stolen. Like 90% of the time the car was recovered after it was abandoned on a street the Mountie I talked to heavily implied was essentially a "designated stolen car drop-off" zone. (The cops are not being entirely laissez-faire here; after all, they then had a returned car to scour for prints and DNA which wouldn't be the case if it was torched or "ditched" in a lake or river.)

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Darkside Trooper:
OOC: two fat zombies were killed in post 142.

Okay, i'm... just not seeing this here:

Darkside Trooper:
Annabelle and Eddie start firing on the Zombies.....

Annabelle blows off the head of the pointing Zombie and while Eddie hits one of the large fat Zombies in the head it is only a glancing blow. The two large fat Zombies then begin to run at the truck, and despite being large and fat they seem to be a bit faster then the most common Zombies..... They also begin to moan....

Annabelle fires a second time and her shot hits one of the fat Zombies (not the one Eddie had previously hit in the head) in the body, but the bullet strike doesn't seem to slow it down. She fires a second time and the fat zombie moves ot of the way at the last split second.

Eddie takes a second shot at the fast Zombie he just hit and is satisfied to see the head explode into a brown mist of decaying brains. Eddie's third shot misses the second fat Zombie as well.

Laney climbs into the cab of the truck and closes the door.

TAB is still a few feet from the trucks driver side....the fat zombie isn't that far away, less then  and if TAB really wanted to he could charge and attack the Zombie with his weapons.

The gunfire manages to attract other zombies nearby. Nine more Zombie become visible, coming from the east and approaching the rear of the truck. While they are not close it won't take any more then 30 seconds to reach the truck.

Now, i know this isn't the first time i've blatantly missed the obvious, but here's what i'm reading here:

Enemies: Smart Zombie, Fat Zombies #1, #2 and #3
  • Annabelle kills the smart (pointing) zombie.
  • Eddie nicks the head of Fat Zombie #1
  • Annabelle hits Fat Zombie #2 in the body
  • Annabelle misses Fat Zombie #2
  • Eddie kills Fat Zombie #1 ("the one he just hit")
  • Eddie misses Fat Zombie #2
  • More stuff happens

So... yeah. Fat Zombie #2 should have a single gunshot wound in the body from Annabelle, i'm just not seeing where it died. Unless the DudePCs got him on their turn, of course?

Not trying to start up an argument, just... trying to figure out what i've missed, since it looks like everyone's seeing it but me ^^;

First of all nobody is about to get killed. That said if the dice are unfavorable to you would you prefer your character to have a quick death (i.e. Bullet to the head) or a slow death (i.e. Shot in the neck and will bleed out long before another character can stop the bleeding), or do you not care and would like to see what kind of death the GM can write out for you?

Mind you in the case of slow death you might (or might not) be able to post an action or two before your world goes black.

Doin' alright!

My sit-down group took a night off. We watched Monster Squad (1087) and Omega Man (1971). The former is (as a friend put it) "like Goonies meets Lost Boys". The latter was an adaptation of the book I am Legend (like the movies Last Man on Earth and then the Will Smith vehicle I am Legend).

Omega Man swings for the fences in a way few modern survival horror/post-apocalypse films (although it would have been called a "post-holocaust" movie then) would. They managed to shoehorn commentary on a plethora of societal issues like (of course) WWIII, militarism, colonialism, an isolated white patriarchal ruling class under siege by a revolutionary dark horde, technology vs. quasi-religious new-age-ish luddism, the Manson Family and a media-driven cult of personality, hippie peaceniks, an interracial love scene with nudity (and one of the first onscreen interracial kisses!) between a "white saviour" unapologetically played by Charlton Heston and a Black Power-inspired Rosalind Cash. This wasn't some ironic indie feature made on the cheap but a serious sci-fi feature with name actors played straight, but not without some humour.

For the weapon affectionados among us note that this Neville uses a Browning Automatic Rifle mounted with a very early model infrared scope pulled from an M3 carbine (the latter can be seen in his armoury). "Tac-lights" weren't a thing at that time so in order to equip Neville's M76 SMG with a flashlight the prop department simply attached one with clamps to the barrel shroud.

A few months back I watched a Monster Squad and Teen Wolf double feature with my kids. Ah the 80's... afterwards I made sure they understood the word Fag is no longer part of our  vernacular.  I realized I was 10 when I watched Teenwolf at the movies and it is a terrible movie overall. Monster Squad holds up better but my kids were not nearly entertained as my 10yr old self was when Wolfman got kicked in the nards.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)

Scary German Guy: [as Sean, Patrick, and Horace are leaving Scary German Guy's house] I expect you boys thought I was some kind of monster myself, mm? A vampire, perhaps? That's quite all right. But I am not, you know. If I were a vampire, then I wouldn't have a reflection...

Scary German Guy: ... now would I?

Horace: Man, you sure know a lot about monsters.

Scary German Guy: Now that you mention it, I suppose I do.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

So who might be interested in playing in a Rifts game where the majority of the characters are Mystic Knights? This would be a game where the players are the bad guys. The rating would be adult and I'd be using information from the Mystic Knight article found in Rifter #45. There will be 5-7 slots open for Mystic Knights, with each belonging to a specific House within the Order of the Mystic Knights. After that characters would be non-knight members from the seven houses.

Well about the only thing you won't be able to do is the one big taboo here on RPOL (we all know what it is) and murdering each other since the last line of the Mystic Knight code states: Never betray your own. This doesn't mean there will not be infighting. But there are rules for when two Mystic Knights disagree on something. For example a simple dispute would be handled in hand to hand combat where neither opponent attempts to kill or maim each other. There is also of course a challenge/duel, which has its own special rules.

Oh and since each Mystic Knight will belong to a different 'House' I do expect some infighting. But the group is going to be sent on a mission to benefit the entire Order of the Mystic Knights, hence why each major house will be represented.

If I do run the game, I will be tweaking the Mystic Knight houses in Rifter #45 so there is more difference between each house and thus each character will be a bit different then the others. I also might create two more minor houses.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Rifts: The Order of Mystic Knights
Mystic Knights are infamously known as one of the most hated and feared warriors on the North American continent of Rifts Earth. Many are unaware that the Mystic Knights have a hierarchy. Operating out the Magic Zone there are five Great Houses who control the Order, contracting services across the continent. There are also several Minor Houses that operate outside of the Magic Zone, but yet are formally recognized by the Five Great Houses. Then there are the freelance and banished Mystic Knight who wander the continent seeking employment and riches for themselves.

Player characters will be members of the Great and Minor Houses of the Order of Mystic Knights. Each House is supplying one Mystic Knight and one possibly non-Knight to a mission of utmost importance to the order.

This is an adult game due to the amount of graphic and gratuitous violence that is bound to occur when a group of 4-8 Mystic Knights are traveling across the North American Continent of Rifts Earth.

Did the female sharpshooter come with us? IF so, Laney would be looking at her.

Laney will suggest they move up to at least the Hoover Dam Lodge. We can see if the cultists have established an OP there, scavenge any diesel if possible from any rigs parked there. Finding some bikes would really be swell! That would be a good time to use the satphone to call our contact and advise them we're still alive and about to try for a rescue of their people.

From there we can drive on or hoof the last few miles on foot. I imagine the dam is louder than you'd think (I've been there but not for a looong time!) what with the water coming out the spillway and hydroelectric plant, enough to cover the sound of truck engines, but we can't be sure.

The walkie-talkies can transmit on the CB frequencies. We had used a Motorola hand radio to communicate on Channel 9, the CB emergency channel, and assumed when we did radio checks we set everything (both Motorolas and the CB) to a shared channel. Obviously it's your call if that happened or not.

It's not too big of a deal as each vehicle should have a walkie-talkies. Worse comes to worse we can just talk out the window! But it's good to know now if something needs to be altered while we still have time to correct it.

1) Your too far away, unless you drive right up to the police cars (which you are not).

2) If the bag is in the back of the cargo truck there is no way for you to get one of the grenades.

3) The M651 40×46mm CS gas grenades are not the pull the pin variety. They only work with the M-32, or the M-203 under the M-4 Rob got from one of the rapist dudes killed in the shed.

4) Rob and the .50 caliber machine gun are going to tear those guys up. Plus Joint is pulling up to the cop cars to let people out the back of the MRAP.

5) That nat 20 I rolled is not gonna bode well for those in the cab of the cargo truck. If one of the three players in the cab doesn't post I'll have fun killing someone.

1) We don't need to throw the flash-bangs near the police cars, although that would be best. Laney intended to get it in front of the truck and therefore in the direct line of sight of the shooters.

2) Laney was the only PC who expressed interest in the contents of the bag. It therefore makes the most sense for it to be near her, if you think about it.

3) Laney was not using a 40mm grenade. She grabbed an M84 Stun Grenade, which looks like it is clearly thrown:

The M7A3 CS canisters are also hand-thrown.

4) Good point, that obviously seems like the best plan!

5) Nat 20s are gonna Nat 20! I don't want to meta-game the implications of this too much, if you know what I mean.

I'll have her get one of the flash-bangs and/or CS grenades this turn, if you agree the bag is in the cab. If Laney survives until then she can maybe throw it next turn.

With three people in the cab, adding the bag will make it a tight fit. For now it is in the back of the truck. Don't worry you guys will have a minute or two after this if you decide to assault the 'base'.

OK it took me some time to get my posts up. I had to really think of how I was going to 'word' a certain section.

EDIT: You guys still have a good chance at capturing Hoover Dam. Remember the Air Force Major said there were like 20 guys there. You probably killed 4 at the gun range and a 5th guy was at the gun range itself and killed by the people you rescued. You just killed 5 more guys and a 6th is running away.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

So as an FYI I did head shot kill a PC with a nat 20. Even if the bullet had gone through an arm or leg (16HP & 16SDC) the character would have lost a limb or spend months recovering a broken bone. If they had been a torso hit the character would probably bleed out before getting to the surgical table at the 3 mansions safe haven. The other PCs would have had 3 skill rolls (one medical skill roll per minute) to stop the bleeding on an entrance and exit wound. Once the PC dropped into a ‘coma’ they would have 19 minutes (not enough time to drive back to the doctor) before being dead for good.

So in discussion with the player (they can chime in) it was decided to make death quick. The player is going to use a back up NPC for now and might make a whole new character.

Murderer!

Says the guy who was the GM when my PC ordered another PC to be executed for disobeying an order (IIRC stepping out of formation to help some mutant monkey pick up his research paper work) and a GM NPC blew the PCs head off 20 in character posts into the game.

Oh and then another GMNPC blew the mutant monkeys brains out with a .45

Of course it did settle the issue as to if the base line human (non-psychic, non-bionic, non-mutant) commanding officer’s orders should be obeyed.

It could be karmic justice.

I just wrapped up a Cthulhu Now adventure for my sit-down group. ("The Killer From Space", set in 1986.) In the final session I smoked a PC for touching something they shouldn't have (no save) and then killing another for blowing a DEX check. It was only through dumb luck the party avoided a TPK because hey, that's Call of Cthulhu for you! (My wife says, "word to the wise, don't kill off your spouse's character. Just, like, don't." A maxim I learned the hard way to live by.)

Hi! Camp was fun! It was very smoky at first. Like, 1 kilometre visibility or so. My daughter (who's 3) kept asking why there were clouds in the trees... I told her it was foggy. But there were no fires in our area. Plus we were next to a lake, which could have helped! It rained a few days in, which helped, then it was sunny with periods of rain. I ran a Classic Traveller adventure for a few people ("Chamax Plague").

Anyone seen the movie Meatballs? This camp was a very small version of that. Plus we have a couple people there that actually met while campers at the real-life location where Meatballs was filmed, camp White Pines in Ontario. We watched the movie one night, very trippy!

Hmm... Kind of on the fence on whether i should return to the compound or not. Arani would be of help, but she's running very low on ammo (8 shots on the Taurus) and the Beretta's the one she grabbed from Laney.

It'd depend on whether the truck has enough people to arguably survive the trip back if they'd run into any danger along the way.

It might get boring if you go back with the 5 ton.....if enough people go back I’ll make sure it isn’t boring.

There are a few rifles and I think pistols that have been recovered from dead bodies.

You can also take Laney’s ammo, just PM what you take. Same thing applies to any other gear she has that somebody wants to take. Yes this is cold taking her but at least she isn’t dead....

Point and pull the trigger?

Maybe somebody with the basic mechanics skill could figure out the operation of it.

Of course based on occupation I’d let some characters be able to figure it out on the basis that thier occupation probably gave them some fam fire time with a grenade launcher.

Let me see if I have this right:

There is a wide road that goes right up to the main building, where there is a turn-around, and continues past along the top of the dam. There is a cliff on the left, and a gorge on the right. A 4-story parkade is off to the left, dug out of the cliffside.

We turned off into the parkade, and then parked on the upper level where it has a good field of fire.

The dismounts are heading down some side access stairs and will proceed on foot keeping to the left cliff wall. Our point of entry is not the main entrance but a side tourist entrance off to the left and down a bank of escalators.

When we signal by radio or flashlight the MRAP can move up on the access road to the main building to either extract them once they locate the hostages or to bail them out.

Also: how is the lighting? I would imagine it's very well-lit. And a little noisy if the dam spillway is in operation and the hydroelectric generators are going.

Sorry to see the 2020 game go, but it finds itself in good company (the 2014 NWO game).

Personally, Palladium's turned into one of those love-hate things for me. I like the setting and system in and of itself, chargen is nice and extensive and ends up with characters that don't feel min-maxey, but when time comes for combat, man do i hate rolling what feels like 500 times per round. :/

Hi Alan,

I think our PCs (Izzy and Clyde) are from a newer cohort, from the Four Mansions save haven. If you'd like we can have a shared background. If not, then Izzy was a little unusual. He dressed and talked like a criminal, but was extremely nerdy. Like an IT guy who was really, really into hip-hop and gangsta fashion. Were it possible (GM's decision) he would have set up Wi-Fi, a local server, CCTV and any related networking tasks.

My other PC, Laney, is currently with Clyde. She was a city paramedic and is carrying some kind of medical bag.

I don't know if Clyde would be authorized to use a "consultant" outside PD, but maybe sort of a "Fuzzy Dunlap" situation, if you've ever seen "The Wire." Or, in all probability, a CI. IF that's cool with DST, a CI certainly works for me, and seems a very realistic probability. Though expect Clyde to call Izzy "Huggy Bear." :)

Although I like the idea of a CI, if he was a CI Izzy would be handled by someone in the cyber-crime division, or whoever in Metro handled that. Izzy doesn't brag about his past so he probably gets along with Clyde. (I imagine that these days a Clyde wouldn't be too worked up over identity theft and credit card fraud, but you never know.)

Laney could well have at least crossed paths with him, especially if his area was West, North Vegas (the seedier parts of the city) and unicorporated communities in nearby Clark County that her company serviced.

Hmm... Clyde MAY know Arani's sister.

Arani is a former NYPD cop who was injured during a shootout, and as a result has a slight limp so she's a tad slow (Speed: 9). She became a bounty hunter and pretty good at her job.

Can't for the life of me find the old thread she's started in, but if i recall she was in Vegas when everything went down so while mostly focusing on the NY area, she did make enough to earn 96k / year solo, so she'd get the occasional high value targets. Clean record too, honorable discharge from the force so intimately familiar with protocols and procedures. She'd get most of her jobs through her sister's agency (Angela Watson).

I don't know if you'd be familiar with her work, but it feels like the kind of job Clyde would have been toying with the idea of, and with her breaking six figures on good years he might recognize the name.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

In reply to Arani Vasingis (msg # 333):

I guess, with Izzy, most of it comes down to how he feels about snitchin'. Does he have an alignment conducive to a) ratting to earn a get out of jail free card? B) Perhaps he is of an alignment where he can't abide greater crimes? C) A Bubbles type snitch looking for a quick gratuity from the cops? D) Does he sing on rivals for the sake of business? E) Is he a vigilante? Maybe you know, busts out a few credit cards, but looks for child molesters/pornographers? White collar criminals who steals millions? The Syndicate? F)He's just a Small Change Willie from Philly who Clyde squeezes for information on bigger fish?

Of course, I guess DST would need to sign off any of this, but he's robbery homicide, was OC before this, then uniformed gang unit, with a start in patrol. He would see Izzy as a sardine lure for a sturgeon. His alignment is mutable, and would probably let an identity theft suspect dust on a charge if he provided someone worse, with a stern warning and a wink to not get caught doing it again/ He's just grey enough to say, oh no, we can't hack a suspect's computer without PC, but a CI who did his civic duty could dime, for a C-note.

In my mind, I am sort of envisioning Izzy as a modern Mars Blackmon. Fast talking, a little shady, but looking out for himself, his own and his community. He'd be willing to dime to right cop for the right reasons. Hustler with a heart of gold?

As for Laney, I came up with some colorful anecdotes I could send you in PM-r things our characters were in on. Just some squirrelly things a homicide investigator and a paramedic would see. Ask about the D'Amico case, the Spring Valley Wedding and the Highwayman. Up to Laney if she believes what really went down or not. ;) Some things didn't get into the media, but truth was too strange for fiction or news.

Arani: Good points. I was looking at the cast list tonight and thought Arani would be another good one to share a history. They work in the same field, criminal justice, Arani for herself, though for a greater good at the end of the day. I don't know her alignment, but I would guess anarchist. Though she could be easily up to principled, depending on her method, just forced to do what she does well in the private sector by her injury.

She could resent Clyde easily for his speediness, or for his technique. Or disrespect him, because he can be a bit of a dense jock.He can be heavy handed-excessive force beefs, some sketchiness with evidence and surly attitude. Then again, they could have very compatible alignments. If she's a pure profiteer, it could be Clyde that resents her as a greedy interloper. Lot of ways to go about this!

By the way, I'm having a great brainstorm with you guys.

If compatible in motive and method, they could be reluctant but respecting partners, to bitter rivals. But I certainly think they'd at least know of each other.

What seems to work for yous? I don't know that much about your characters yet, but I see great character development opportunities.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

Just heads up to everybody, I cleaned up the equipment thread, and made sure that what you have according to IC posts is what is on your person.

What I did:
  • TAB and Annabelle had switched rifles, so I made the switch on their sheets. Your spare magazines were not switched, just the rifles, and ammo in them. I also swapped your magazines out so you have a full magazine in your respective rifles.
  • Added the gas masks to Izzy, Annebelle, Eddie, and Tab's sheets. You should not have any gas mask carriers becuse they are a real pain to attached to an LBV or molle vest. It actually requires you to take the LBV/Molle vest off.
  • Added the grenade launcher and all 10 rounds of ammo to Eddie's sheet.
  • Reduced the number of gas masks, tear gas, and flash bang grenades to account for the ones Izzy grabbed. No one else had tear gas or flashbang grenades added to their sheets.

I gotta hit the hay so I can't give a detailed reply but I just want to say I like your style and I'll give it some serious thought.

For now I'll need to think about Izzy's alignment a little more but I can see his code meaning he can engage in cybercrime but abhor the drug trade because of the damage it has done to the African American community. So he could see his way to being a CI, at least with regards to criminals who deal. Very interesting.

Although honestly, Laney is probably the one who would have more of a connection!

Tony? Is Izzy any kind of athlete? Like b-ball, football, track or anything. It could have been a thing where they share information in infrequent meetups while on a jog, I mean back then and before the now. And Clyde's not really a narco guy, but I am sure he could appreciate a good tip on a big shipment, and put a bug in the right ear. If any intel about 187's came from such a bust, or stolen goods or other, he'd be in a good place to investigate. Of course if there was info on violent crimes or guns Izzy hacks into, he'd be a really great CI.

Just to say, I don't think spamming with turns and actions is good at all, but I think conversation and discussion is some of the most critical actions in a group RPG. Actions work well via PBP, and granted, tomorrow morning, we might think of a few more personal actions, aka, "I zip up my fly!"  But discussion and conversation is critical. "Do you trust Mindy?" "I dunno, do you?" "I dunno do you? Make your case!" That's sort of the RP right there. That's the drama. Should we do it on PM or what, especially if discussing in message? I'm not all about a radical reversal of action, just want to make sure I see where to go, and RP with other players. I'm looking through N&SS book and saw that there is 'Tissue Damage rating' listed on page 148 for bullets.

I think this might be a good thin to add to this game in the event a player character gets shot (a few of you already have been shot). I will do a few tweaks to what's listed in the book. Also depending on the 'tissue damage rating' the bullets will only do SDC damage unless it's a critical hit (I thinking about buckshot, and the smaller caliber like a .22).

For those who may be interested, I have started up a Ninjas & Superspies game. link to another game

Ninjas & Superspies pays homage to the martial arts movies of the 1970's and military action movies of the 1980's. The game is set in 1980.

I do intend on the space race to be at this point the USA and USSR competing to establish the first Moon base. Both counties have put people on the moon and established armed (with kinetic weapons, not lasers) space stations in orbit. So the space stations pretty much have the ability to destroy each other in the event WWIII breaks out.

So the cold war will be a little be 'hotter' then in our own universe.

Just a heads up for some of you, I do have two other active games running here on RPOL.

Robotech Re-imagined: The Macross Saga
link to another game
In this game the players are currently trying to survive the Battle of Pluto.
  • Player Group One: A squadron of veritech pilots (Might have a few NPC’s characters you can barrow for a bit)
  • Player Group Two: Civilians living in Macross City. This group is mostly freeform and role playing. But it is also where some players running veritech pilots have a replacement PC made in case their veritech pilot gets killed in action. So you would make a civilian character who will 'join up' and become a VT pilot after the battle. Or make a civilian character and just live in Macross city.

I’m around.....

I kinda let this game fall to the wayside because it seems like many of the players were not logging in or posting.

Of course at this point work is going to be hectic for me until mid October (I’m telecommuting).

Also my laptop informed me the other day that ‘there is no bootable disc available’ so I assume that means either a fried hard drive or infected with a virus.

But I got the old Windows 7 laptop up and running again.

If it is a standard laptop it should look like a credit card and you should be able to just pull it out, but I would do your own research first. You never know with the stupid things, moving my desktop brought up the same error and it was just a loose cable after a good 4 or 5 hours of trying to work out what was going on.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

There are only 3 active players in this game and now is a good time to ask where does everyone want to take the game from here?

Some ideas I have. I can use some of these ideas we do not go with to write characters (PC/NPC) out of the game too.
  • Get a ride out on a USAF C-130 out of Groom Lake, destination Alaska. I am sure I can have some interesting adventures occur with the plane crashing. Or we do a several month (or a year) time skip? Not 100% sure what to do from there, but I got some ideas.
  • Stick around in the Las Vegas area, maybe do a several month (or a year) time skip? Not 100% sure what to do from there, but I got some ideas.
  • An adventure to travel cross country/across the Atlantic? One character is from England and may want to try to get home. Another character has family in New Orleans, and a third is from NYC.
  • End the game (insert frown face here) and maybe start up a Beyond the Supernatural Game. Yes you can recycle your character into this possible game.

If we continue the game, I will probably try to recruit more players.

To be honest I am happy to go with the majority of the other players or even what the GM wants to do. My preference would be to stay in the Las Vegas area for a time and then try to make it back home cross country ?

That being said I also like the idea of a supernatural campaign as well.

You know I could incorporate elements of Beyond the Supernatural into this game after a time skip. We’d end up with a blending of the two games.

Another idea I’ve been kicking around is a Chaos Rifts game set 50 years after the cataclysm occurred.

If we were going to kick off a supernatural campaign I would probably create a new character or advance J.P's age and career to something helpful. I like the idea of a old city being the setting like London, Paris etc.... gives it more of a dark and ominous feel, but that's probably just me.

I lived in London on and off for most of my life and it always felt like something could be going on just under the surface....

Dying Stylishly Games have a really cool setting called "Esoteric Enterprises" which could be the sand box on top of the supernatural rules.

I could have more seen us getting a ride on a C-130 if we'd have even brought back one of the kidnapped personnel because they would wait for one of their own. Hanging around LV is fine, I'm not in favour of a time-skip. If Jonathan were to want to return home that would be fun, at least escorting him to an airport or seaport the east coast (or maybe west coast if it's a long-range transport).

I was enjoying this game but if you feel it's run the course for now, I'd be happy with changing gears and games.

I'd be interested in a Beyond the Supernatural game. What did you have in mind for this? I'd be ok with porting over characters, not sure about a blended game?

I could have more seen us getting a ride on a C-130 if we'd have even brought back one of the kidnapped personnel because they would wait for one of their own. Hanging around LV is fine, I'm not in favour of a time-skip. If Jonathan were to want to return home that would be fun, at least escorting him to an airport or seaport the east coast (or maybe west coast if it's a long-range transport).

I was enjoying this game but if you feel it's run the course for now, I'd be happy with changing gears and games.

A blended game would be one where the players begin to manifest psychic powers as per Beyond the Supernatural. But I'd still feel like we'd be in the conundrum where its either killing/running away from zombies or killing humans with bad morals.

The Beyond the Supernatural (BTS) game would be the third time I've tried to run such a game, but I think this time I have a good idea of what to do for the plot/story. I am thinking of allowing some characters to use the various martial arts from Ninjas & Superspies, based on their occupation. But I'd remove the 'ninja magic' stuff. As I had done in a previous BTS game, I'd allow 1 or 2 characters to be mystics and be able to use magic.

Overall, the idea I have for the BTS game is that it would be kinda like a spy/political thriller, but with action, kinda like a Tom Clancy novel.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

In reply to Darkside Trooper (msg # 426):

I don't mind games where you are running from or fighting zombies. It can be fun! Cymon and I played for years in a Twilight 2000 game (Pirates of the Vistula) where all we were doing was moving from one conflict to the next. (I tend to think fighting other survivors in post-apocalypse games is overdone, although I do like the cult in this game as I think they are more interesting than the surprise-cannibals and smirking/sociopathic overlords/warlords/bad guys in Walking Dead/Fear the Walking Dead.) I've been running another zombie game where rebuilding is the primary theme but the zombies are always out there, along with various survivor factions vying for control or survival (although not all or even most people, even gangs, are necessarily hostile).

Probably the focus would have to be more be on community building, restoring governance and civil order. The best zombie game I've been in was we were playing part of a National Guard unit that was training at Ft. William Harrison in MT. We were a mobile Civil Affairs Team locating survivor groups and communities, surveying and documenting them, and providing assistance in preparation for a transition to democratic civilian governance from a state of Martial Law and military rule. (And these communities often had serious internal or external problems that we needed to take care of ourselves as we were frequently days or weeks out from base and communication wasn't always reliable.) This model does tend to be radically different than most post-apocalypse games, where government has been completely extinguished above the local community/group level (if that remains at all) but in it's favour, it was different! Our PCs are not soldiers, but could be part of a new civilian government or police organisation that is reconstituting itself in the state capitol, Carson City.

BTS is about the supernatural, makes sense! Either we'd be part of some clandestine organisation (government, military or corporate/mercenary/freelance) or maybe informal or ad hoc "Hunters" a la Supernatural?

As a GM I am not all too confidante that' I'd be able to run a 'community building game'.

I am pretty sure I could run a Dead Reign game where the players are traveling cross country.

There are a number of organizations present in the BTS universe, but I would create a 'Supernatural Busting Agency' using the Crome Buster Agency template from Ninjas & Super spies. I'd take some input from players on the creation of the agency.

We would be using second edition, but incorporating magic from 1st edition.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

In reply to Darkside Trooper (msg # 429):

I run a game set in the UK that is centred around community building and it does require a certain GM and players who are into bookkeeping. That's not my style. I started as co-GM and finally took over the game after the first GM ghosted, the second GM (a close friend) died and the third GM ghosted. The focus became more on exploration, survivor contact, resource gathering, providing critical assistance to friendly communities and groups, neutralising various AGM (Anti-Government Militias) and ending various reprehensible practices (such as forced or coercive breeding, aka "mass rape" like the model adopted by the rogue army unit in 28 Days Later). This is how the game I was in years ago (the one involving the Montana National Guard) eventually shook out. Both games had a bit of a "cheat" in that there was some kind of surviving (if minimal) authority to answer to and receive orders/directives from, in the former the surviving UK central government in quarantine on the Isle of Wight and in the latter the unit HQ and provisional military government. So in essence both evolved into "travel" games and had nothing to do with actual settlement and resource management.

Regarding BTS, a private investigation group specialising in (and employing) supernatural elements seems fine! Perhaps employed by private citizens, corporations, various levels of government, etc. Openly or clandestinely.

Re: OOC 2 (Questions? Complaints? Ideas?)

I intend the BTS game to be one where all the initial PC's know and work for the same private supernatural investigation group. I want to avoid the characters being part of a big name organization, but that does not mean that would make an appearance.

I think what I am going to do is create the BTS game and if there is quite a bit of player joins (about 6 total) we'll end this game. If there is little or no player interest, we will move forward with this game and have the player characters either travel across country or be the 'gatherers' for a survivor community.

Sounds good, I will create a new character for the BTS game. Did you have a location for it in mind.... London, London.......

Game created: link to another game

I am actually asking players what location/era they want the game to be in.

Also, if anyone isn't going to port their character(s) over, I'd like to use some of the character here (might need to tweak them a bit) as NPC's and colleges, or acquaintances of the player characters.

Posting the notice that I will be ‘deleting’ this game in a week.

I will probably be pulling more then a few characters to use as NPCs in other games.

Hey, if it's not too much trouble, can you supply an epilogue? Even if the game is deleted we get a bit of closure. What do you say?

Thanks,
